Inclusion At Avanade
1. Why is it important to your company to employ disabled people? (e.g. expanding diversity of thought, accessing more talent, building an inclusive team, appealing to a wider audience etc).
Our vision is to advance the world through the power of people and Microsoft, and as digital innovators, we recognize accessibility is a top priority in that advancement. It is a key priority for us to make a genuine human impact and contribute toward the fight against disability discrimination while also narrowing the disability employment gap.
As the leading digital innovator on the Microsoft platform, we also know that having a broad range of perspectives makes us better at creating ideas and solutions that work for everyone. Having people with disabilities as teammates and collaborators helps us consider our clients’ needs from different angles and raises our own awareness of how technology needs to work in variety of scenarios.
2. Have you got any other Inclusive Recruitment Processes? Apart from advertising on Evenbreak, how else have you made your recruitment process accessible and inclusive? (e.g. offering adjustments, different formats, blind CVs, alternative assessment methods).
Wherever possible, Avanade collaborates with local partners and government agencies to post jobs that are disability inclusive. An example of this is the Disability Confident campaign by the UK Government of which we are one of the committed employers in the program.
We are members of Disability:IN, a network of more than 500 corporations that expands opportunities for people with disabilities across enterprises. Additionally, we offer accommodations during the interview process to ensure everyone can present as their best selves. At Avanade everyone that’s involved in the interview and hiring process has received training to create a great candidate experience and drive inclusion.
3. Do you offer flexible working? (e.g., flexible working hours, remote or at home working, part-time options, job carving etc).
Flexibility is integral to the Avanade culture, as we believe people work best when they have some autonomy in how their work is structured. Many of our people make use of remote or hybrid work arrangements and can establish a set schedule that shifts traditional hours to accommodate time for family and other personal engagements with our alternative work week. Depending on roles and locations, we do have part-time opportunities. Additionally, we actively encourage employees to request workplace adjustments when needed to enable everyone to thrive in their career.
4. What else do you offer disabled employees? (e.g. employee networks, career progression, mentoring, training programmes etc).
Avanade’s Europe and Middle East (EME) DiversAbility Network connects and supports employees with disabilities and long-term health conditions as well as carers/employees with caregiving responsibilities. The network gives people the opportunity to network and exchange ideas and stories and come together for events and activities to raise awareness and educate people on disability issues that matter to them. One program includes the Reciprocal Mentoring Program, where Avanade executives are paired with EMEDiversAbility members to learn from their perspectives and about their lived experiences rather than in a traditional career advising relationship.
5. Have you been recognised for inclusion? (e.g. Disability Confident, Mindful Employer, Recognition of Best Practices or any other diversity and inclusion awards).
We are determined to lead the transformation of the technology industry to make it a place where everyone belongs and are proud to be recognized as a top employer.
Last year, we ranked #3 in the IT, Internet, Software and Services category and #18 overall out of 850 companies in the Financial Times Diversity Leaders ranking.
We have been recognized as the company of the year at the 2023 European Diversity Awards and have also been shortlisted in other categories for the past 2 years. In 2022 our DiversAbility Employee Network was shortlisted in the Outstanding Employee Network of the Year category.
More recently DiversAbility has also been shortlisted for Employee Network / Resource Group of the Year at the TLC Lions - Human Awards 2024.
6. In a nutshell, why should a disabled candidate choose to apply to your company?
We hope that people with disabilities will be compelled to join Avanade for the same reasons as all our candidates. Avanade is a place where everyone is welcome to bring his/her/their full and authentic selves. We are a successful global technology company that still manages to keep people at the heart of what we do. We strive to provide everyone at Avanade with distinctive experiences, limitless learning opportunities, and ambitious growth. We are the place to be if you want to use the power of the Microsoft platform to do what matters for our clients, our communities, and our people.
