Balfour Beatty

THIS IS WHERE IT STARTS.

We are more than construction. Every day, our projects change the way the world looks and improve the way it works. And because we do more, you will too.

Challenge yourself, and you’ll do truly impressive work. Control your career, and you’ll grow like never before. Explore our business, and you’ll enjoy a richer experience. And we’ll support you all the way.

AFFINITY NETWORKS

Everybody has a place here and our Affinity Networks give you a voice. They help you fulfil your potential and for Balfour Beatty to take meaningful actions for everyone. Like the work that we do, our people are diverse and we celebrate this.

We have four employee-led networks.

LGBT+

This network actively encourages a culture of respect, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Its members help us educate and train all employees on LGBT+ issues – working with external partners and our supply chain to drive best practice within our industry.

Multi-Cultural

We’re working to improve the representation of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) people across Balfour Beatty, and provide fair access to leadership roles. Our Multi-Cultural network helps the business understands cultural experiences and provides an open platform for employees to bring their own unique perspective to the development of the business’s working culture. Its members raise awareness and support events, and help us identify and remove any barriers that might be holding back their peers from flourishing here.

Ability

As a Disability Confident company, we’re always looking for new ways to become more accessible for disabled people. This is where our Ability network comes in. They help us spot and break down barriers to enable more people with disabilities to join us and thrive. They’re also a big part of our work to raise awareness and understanding of mental health issues.

Gender Equality

Men and women from across our business are working together to create a more diverse and inclusive construction sector by arranging events and sharing experiences which encourages gender equality. Our employees are not only driving the business and industry towards a balanced workforce, but also role models for the next generation thinking of a career in construction.

REWARDS & BENEFITS

As if contributing to and supporting work that makes life better for millions wasn’t rewarding enough, we offer a full range of benefits too. You’ll have the freedom to shape the package that’s right for you and your life.

Here are some of our key benefits:

SMART WORKING

Smart Working is Balfour Beatty’s approach to when, where and how our employees work. It’s more than a flexible working policy; it is about having a supportive, inclusive culture and being a great place to work. It covers all the stages of your career and considers arrangements and flexibility to meet your needs such as staggered start and finish times, and where roles allow, the opportunity to work remotely 40% of the time.

SHARE INCENTIVE PLAN

To help you share in Balfour Beatty’s success, we offer the opportunity to invest in our company and share in our potential future results.

The Share Incentive Plan is a tax-efficient way to invest in Balfour Beatty shares. Open to all permanent employees, it allows you to contribute between £10 and £150 per month, via deductions from payroll.

ANNUAL LEAVE

As a permanent employee, you’ll receive a maximum of 25 days’ paid statutory annual leave entitlement, pro rata if you work part time, in addition to any extra contractual holiday and national bank holidays.

RECOGNITION SCHEMES

Delivering on your goals and living our behaviours is important, so in return we’ll recognise your achievements. We have a number of different schemes that provide a chance for you to be recognised by your colleagues.

PENSIONS

Lay the foundations for life after work, with our contributory pension scheme.

In addition to your contributions, Balfour Beatty will usually contribute to your pension scheme and you’ll receive tax relief. Furthermore, you’ll also receive life assurance if you’re in the pension scheme.

COMPANY CARS, PRIVATE HEALTHCARE & INCENTIVE SCHEMES

May be available, depending upon your role and contract.

FAMILY FRIENDLY POLICIES

We recognise the need to retain the skills and services of our employees and wish to encourage you to return to work following the birth/adoption of your children. You may therefore be entitled to enhanced company maternity/paternity and shared parental benefits.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME

Get expert, free confidential support and advice on issues affecting your professional or personal life including debt & financial management, legal & tax advice and family care.

The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

SPECIAL LEAVE

We recognise that you may be faced with situations that require you to be away from work for a short period of time e.g. for HM Forces training, study leave, jury service, public duties and so on. We’ll support you where we can with this.

VOLUNTEERING LEAVE

Wherever we work, we aim to make a positive difference. As part of our team, you can help us succeed.

You can have up to 16 hours paid volunteer leave each year, to spend supporting a local community. For example, you could take part in a school engagement visit, a business project, or an activity linked to one of our national charity partners. The choice is yours.

We’ve recently joined Neurodiversity in Business as a founding member! We are thrilled to start working with the new organisation which aims to help develop more neuroinclusive workplaces and improve the participation of the neurodivergent in the workplace.
