Company Profile - Capability Scotland

Capability Scotland campaigns with, and provides education, employment and care services for, disabled children and adults across Scotland.

We work with disabled people, their families and carers to provide a mix of services that meet their aspirations at all stages of their lives.

We are also a campaigning organisation, committed to using our strong influence to ensure disabled people achieve the same human and civil rights as the rest of society.

Our Vision

Capability Scotland strives to be a major ally in supporting disabled people to have full equality of opportunity and participation as citizens.

Facts and figures

We run 40 services which directly support around 1,000 disabled people from 29 of the 32 Scottish local authorities

  1. Our children's services include specialist pre-school childcare, education via two independent schools and bespoke playschemes

  2. Our adult services include community based support, day activities, residential living and respite, and employment services

  3. As of January 2013, we employed 1,157 staff on a mixture of permanent and relief contracts

  4. Over 1,000 people volunteer their time, or their views and opinions, to help Capability in its work

  5. Our total income in 2011/12 was £26m, with 85% of this arising from local authority or Scottish Government funded services

  6. We were the first organisation of our type in Scotland to be awarded the ISO 9001 quality standard
