Leicester's Hospitals is looking for a creative, outgoing person to fill our vacant Apprentice Communications Assistant role, based at Leicester Royal Infirmary (with home-working currently in place due to COVID-19).

Our Trust of 16,000 staff serves over one million people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland every year and the communications team play a vital role in the day to day workings of our hospitals. Through effective use of social media, media, branding, online spaces like our website and intranet, and our hospital environment, we create and distribute messages to engage our staff, patients and public with the information they need and get their feedback on how we can improve.

Our Apprentice Communications Assistant is central to how we work as a team (you definitely won't just be making the tea!), because we believe you learn best when you're doing. So you'll get a chance to see and be a part of everything happening across the department from supporting the creation of new content for social media, coordinating our content plans across all our spaces, and managing our media monitoring and inbound requests to planning and executing your own campaigns. You'll also get to see first-hand how communications can drive organisational success - invaluable experience to any future employer.

During this 15 month apprenticeship, you will also work towards a Level 3 Junior Content Producer qualification, through which you will develop and create content that can be used across a variety of media including digital, social media, broadcast and print.

Our ideal candidate will be comfortable using Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and have good intra-personal skills. But we certainly don't expect you to know it all in your first role - we'll help you develop along the way so that you can expand your skill set ready for wherever your career will take you next.

To apply you will have:
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (grade A*-C / 9-4)
  • Some experience of creating content for social media (images/videos/posts)
  • Good writing skills
  • An interest in communications, marketing or PR

  • Working hours:5 per week (inclusive learning time - dedicated study days are available)
  • Course study: Online only (no travel to college required)
  • Salary: £160 per week
  • Contract length: Fixed 15 months
  • Reports to: Communications Manager
  • Equipment: Not required - we'll supply you with a laptop, phone and product subscriptions to do the work you need to do.
  • Eligibility: If you have already completed an apprenticeship at the same level in this sector, or a degree in a similar subject, unfortunately you will be ineligible for this post.
