As a Cyber Apprentice, you will work in the capacity of a Cyber Security Technologist,working to recognize and mitigate risks to protect HS2 and our staff. 

You will apply an understanding of cyber threats, hazards, risks, controls and measures. As well as,working on areas such as security design & architecture, security testing, investigations & response.

The Apprenticeship Programme will span over a period of two years, which will
involve working at HS2 and studying at a training provider. As part of your
Apprenticeship, you will gain a recognised Level 4 qualification.

The IT Security Operations team maintains a good state of security operations covering all HS2 IT systems. They work with suppliers, vendors, internal and external stakeholders to effectively monitor security systems and respond to security events and incidents. The IT Security Operations team also manage security forums such as vulnerability management and IT security steering groups. They make key decisions in the change advisory board and influence work in patch advisory board.

About the role:

  • Analysis of access control systems
  • Analysis of security events via use of security dashboards
  • Supporting IT Security Operations Analyst in daily tasks
  • Identify suspicious events and investigate
  • Identify weaknesses in systems
  • Use and develop automation of security analysis

Learning

  • Attendance to training provider sessions
  • Complete all work aligned to the apprenticeship programme
  • Completion of the apprenticeship programme

  • Analytical skills: The ability to analyse complex information and identify patterns and trends
Knowledge:
  • IT: skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent
Type of experience:
  • To join us on an Apprenticeship Programme, you’ll need to have achieved or expect to achieve 5 GCSEs at grade 4 minimum, including English and Maths, or equivalent
  • The post-holder is expected to behave at all times in a manner consistent with HS2 company values.
  • It is expected that you will actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
