Facebook seeks an experienced, highly motivated, team player to serve as Associate General Counsel within our EMEA Disputes Legal team. You will lead on managing high-profile privacy litigation matters and advise internal teams on legal risks. The ideal candidate will have very strong litigation experience, including international experience, and a background in data protection and online platform-related litigation. The role requires good judgment, a strong work ethic, and a keen interest in learning about new technologies and areas of the law. Associate General Counsel, EMEA Disputes Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct outside counsel on multiple litigation matters across EMEA

  • Guide and execute litigation strategy in relation to matters pending before national and international courts

  • Work with cross-functional teams on data protection, public policy, platform/partnership, product, privacy, and commercial issues

  • Provide legal advice across many subject areas, with a focus on data protection and litigation risk, including class action/group litigation

  • Develop creative approaches to managing legal risks, building internal systems and processes to improve outcomes and resolving disputes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified to practice law in at least one European jurisdiction

  • Fluency in English

  • At least 7+ years post-qualification litigation experience, leading litigation in either an in-house or law firm setting, with data protection litigation experience highly preferred

  • Good familiarity with GDPR as well as other relevant and upcoming laws and issues, including understanding of the E-Commerce Directive and its application to online platforms

  • Ability to independently, quickly and accurately assess legal, practical and business risks and to present this advice to legal and non-legal leadership personnel

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills and a sharp focus on multi-tasking, details, and organisation

  • Passion for and understanding of technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in another European language very useful but not required

  • Prior experience working with internet or technology companies
