Job Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity for an Audience Editor to join the Wales Online team.

This role exists as a content editor-level role responsible for owning our post-publication activity, such as social media, commenting, newsletters and on-site registration.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is adept at using data and analytics to generate ideas for search and trending content that will drive audience figures among loyal and returning visitors to our site - and finding new audiences by building new communities and using all the engagement tools available.

The role will not only involve finding and producing the stories, as well as liaising closely and working alongside the newsdesk teams on the three sites on a daily basis to ensure the reporting teams are also producing relevant and relatable content for our readers. You'll have a great knowledge of social media and will lead our strategy on this for the three sites.

We're looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to lead our teams to deliver the stories you believe are important from our many communities.

This role will be a mix of home and office working, where you will spend a couple of days a week at our Cardiff hub.

Key Responsibilities
What will the role involve?
  • Part of the content editor team, ensuring social media channels are optimised to reach and engage with as many people as possible
  • Working with Senior Customer Editor and Newsletter Editor, you'll have newsroom responsibility for delivery of Reach commenting and engagement strategy, as well as successful delivery of newsletters, optimising open rates and click throughs
  • You will monitor performance of content using analytics tools such as GA, Chartbeat, Crowdtangle and BuzzSumo and provide performance reports, playing an active role in conferences
  • You will support content editors in the desking, planning and scheduling of content
  • You'll innovate to find new audiences
  • You will organise and plan live event coverage
  • Help the reporting teams generate ideas for search and trending content and help produce content for the three websites
  • Stand in for content editors across the cluster where necessary

The Ideal Candidate
Who are we looking for?
  • Ideally you will have a minimum of two years experience in content writing, editing and/or management with full senior reporter qualifications
  • Proven digital skills including experience of using a content management system
  • An excellent understanding of SEO, search, social and digital audience behaviour
  • Strong local knowledge, ideally based locally
  • Lastly, you will be passionate about digital storytelling!
