The bid manager supports the business by planning and managing the bid process and delivering tender responses in line with the company's brand, position and processes.
The bid manager translates win strategies and business objectives into smart, compelling, consistent, customer-focused, error-free documents and presentations, project managing activity through department bid plans and escalating risk to bid leader / board where required.
As a manager in the department individuals are also expected to conduct market research, competitor analysis to develop win strategies and bid plans, train and coach members of the team, bring ideas and fresh thinking to the department and to identify opportunities and leads.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Analysing tender documentation to uncover what's important.
  • Undertaking client, project, scope, stakeholders, competitor research to better understand opportunities.
  • Facilitating workshops with the wider bid team to share knowledge and develop a strategy.
  • Building commitment to the strategy within the entire bid team (communications)
  • Defining a strategy to win and capture it, based on research.
  • Creating a plan to execute that strategy.
  • Creating an identity, incorporating additional materials, to support that strategy.
  • Creating templates to support that strategy, writing style guides and CV templates.
  • Managing bid, defining bid deliverables, deadlines and owning the bid plan.
  • Planning a project, owning the bid programme, highlighting interdependencies and taking the lead in monitoring / reporting on progress.
  • Booking regular progress meetings, Internal progress meetings, bid kick off, setting the agenda, supporting the meetings.
  • Supporting the bid team through mid-bid, site progress meetings, external meetings.
  • Planning resource from third party, managing inputs and outsourcing to support bid production, including 4D visualisation and external printing, outsourcing requirements.
  • Answering plan with the team to understand the question, scoring mechanisms and setting a clear path for bid team to deliver in line with your strategy.
  • Taking a proactive role in the writing of standard content, CVs, project profiles. Closing gaps where possible by interviewing / questioning relevant parts of the business.
  • Proof / copy edit responses to ensure compelling, benefits, driven copy.
  • Taking the lead in writing compelling, factual, focused executive summaries.
  • Ensuring all required reviews and adjudication, sign-offs are required in line with Mace Way.
  • Taking lead in the bid programme, ensuring review and completion dates are achieved to deliver a bid to deadline.
  • Being agree on plan and scripting for presentations.
  • Creating additional supporting content , printed models, video, large-format printing as required to generate interest and interactivity.
  • Producing leave behind the documentation if required.
  • Coaching and rehearse the team to ensure successful delivery.
  • Capturing all new content within bid content library.
  • Recording and sharing lessons learnt and best practices.
  • Managing and developing direct reports.
  • Identifying development needs for individuals to feed into the overall department learning and development plans (if applicable).
  • Providing appropriate coaching and feedback to members of the department outside of line management to support the ongoing improvement of the department.
  • Contributing and influencing the department's overall resourcing planning.

About you

You have a relevant degree qualification. Ideally a member of APMP, CIM or another appropriate professional body. You will have an understanding of professional service and the building property industry. You have a strong knowledge of adobe suite of software, especially in design, Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.

You will have a strong organisational and project management skills, very high standard of written English, skilled in editing copy to correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with the ability to shape compelling responses. You will have a skill to manage delivery through direct reports and colleagues, including technical employees at all levels, bid colleagues, marketing and communications and external suppliers.

You have a skill in supervising employees, to include delegating responsibility, training and evaluating performance. You will have an ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with team, colleagues and consultants/suppliers and stakeholders in a professional, consistent manner. You will have a strong commitment to internal client care, strong attention to detail and error free delivery. You will have flexibility to occasionally work outside standard working hours

You are digitally savvy especially in using MS Office, can build lasting client relationships and provide support to strong, motivated teams.
