This role entails…

This position is a key member of the Non-Scripted Business Affairs team who will negotiate and contract agreements with third parties (e.g. agents, talent, contributors, service companies, broadcasters etc.) for ITV Studios’ Non-Scripted output, supporting a diverse range of productions and working closely with the production teams throughout the creative process, from development through to delivery.

Some Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate and contract a broad range of deals in a timely fashion, to a high standard. Work will include a wide range of agreements including talent and contributor agreements, location agreements, access arrangements and other underlying agreements and deals with rights holders.

  • Liaise and work closely with the Head of Business Affairs, other members of the Non-Scripted Business Affairs team and the broader ITV legal teams across multiple sites. To support the Head of Business Affairs, providing timely and accurate advice and information when required.

  • To liaise and work closely with relevant production teams with regard to individual programmes, providing trusted advice on legal and business affairs implications of programmes, to anticipate any legal and rights concerns and to offer solutions to resolve these challenges.

  • Provide general commercial and legal advice in a cogent and well structured manner, particularly in relation to copyright, trademarks and clearance issues associated with productions and distribution.

  • Assess commercial deals and liaise with the legal and other ITV departments as appropriate. Ensure that ITV Studios’ investment in production is protected, advising on the rights implications of budgets and any associated risk. 

  • To liaise with the production teams and insurance departments advising on likely risk in light of the production schedule, delivery timetable and cashflow.

  • Ensure that ITV Studios’ deals support ITV’s rights strategies and to play a part in the setting and implementation of these frameworks.

  • Consistently keeping the Head of Business Affairs briefed on a regular and timely basis and ensuring that any recommendations or requests for changes to policy are discussed first with the Head of Business Affairs in order that a departmental approach may be offered in respect of such recommendations/changes.

  • Represent ITV Studios in a professional manner to external parties and to other constituent parts of ITV plc.

  • Build strong and effective working relationships with creative and commercial partners, both internal and external.

  • Handle contentious matters quickly and effectively, knowing when to refer them to the Head of Business Affairs.

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills:

  • A qualified lawyer with ideally one year PQE and with experience of complex negotiations in a television production or broadcasting environment.

  • Solid intellectual property rights and data protection knowledge and experience.

  • An ability to foster and maintain strong relationships with key contacts both internal and external to the business.

  • Skilful drafter of contracts with sound understanding of underlying legislation and commercial parameters and with strong attention to detail.

  • Someone with commercial sense and a proven record in successfully and quickly concluding deals.

  • A team player and effective communicator, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to multi-task and be able to define priorities.

  • Resolving problems under pressure and making rapid accurate assessments and identifying crucial

  • issues.

  • Accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
