We have an exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Assistant to join our team. We’re all still working from home but this role can be fully remote longer term, depending on your location.

Role & Team:

As Commissioning Assistant you’ll provide support to the Journals teams in our Publishing department, across a number of allocated subject portfolios. This will involve providing dedicated administrative support for a publishing teams, conducting market research to support portfolio growth and development, and deputizing for Commissioning Editors in their absence. In time, you may even have the opportunity to manage a small portfolio and build your publishing experience.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • You will be preparing publishing reports, updating journal homepages and working on journal development plans. You’ll also have involvement in project work and cross-functional working to help to achieve department targets
  • You will assist the Commissioning Editor or Senior Commissioning in carrying out individual research projects as directed.
  • You also have the opportunity to support marketing and social media, arrange conference materials, support internal and external award programmes, contributing to the management of budgets, and assist with the management of the forward programme and backlist.  


Who We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for someone ideally with some publishing, marketing or work experience within a commercial environment or gained through studies.

Do you have excellent written and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence cross-functionally, as well as strong organisational and problem solving skills? If so, and you’re a team player with ability to work to your own initiative, we’re keen to hear from you.

You’ll need a desire to learn about subject communities and publishing practices, as well as someone who is keen to get involved in projects as part of personal/career development
