The Commissioning Executive is principally required to work with the Head of Creative to ensure a flow of strong ideas and projects for Film4, leading them
from development through to production, as well as nurturing, developing and managing relationships with new and emerging creative talent. This role in
particular focuses on discovering talent and having strategic oversight of the debut director slate, Executive Producing and overseeing around four films a
year on the production slate. Commissioning shorts is part of this role as a way of allowing new talent to test their ideas before embarking on their first

• Proactively seek out new and diverse talent to work with
• Develop and manage creative relationships with a wide range of producers, directors and writers to encourage a steady supply of the strongest ideas
and projects for Film4.
• To help ensure enough high-quality projects convert to production.
• To progress and implement Film4’s new talent strategy in collaboration with the Head of Creative.
• To be aware of talent in other creative areas both within and outside C4 and generate fresh approaches and territories for Film4 to explore.
• To take responsibility for specific briefs and areas of activity when requested (eg Low Budget, Comedy).
• To collaborate with the Film4 Production and Development Executives and Development Editor on projects in active development and production
• To work across a range of financing, development, production and strategic activities.
• To manage and quality control a wide range of development projects - overseeing and managing any complexities that arise.
• To oversee creative aspects of the production process including script, casting and financial approach, editing and marketing in collaboration with
the wider Film4 team.
• Brief and inspire production companies and be available to speak on public platforms.
• Represent Film4 nationally and internationally at certain markets and certain festivals.
• Work effectively with other parts of the Channel - e.g. legal and compliance, marketing, press, other commissioning areas such as drama, comedy,
specialist factual etc.
• To keep close track of the industry both nationally and internationally.
• To understand wider issues facing the industry and to help Film4 navigate and respond to a changing landscape. To understand the wider industry from
a commercial viewpoint and help Film4 be a leader working towards a more sustainable UK film industry.

• Knowledge of the British and international film industries with wide connections in film and parallel creative industries (e.g. scripted television,
theatre, publishing).
• In depth knowledge and experience of the development process on films that have gone into production.
• An extremely high standard of script editing and note giving.
• Have strong existing talent relationships across film and creative industries and possess ability to find and build new ones.
• Proven ability to seek out and build projects.
• Creative and practical flair and a constant flow of new ideas and different approaches.
• Experience in overseeing creative aspects of the production process including script development, casting, budgeting, production, and post production.
• Experience in successfully collaborating with leading production companies.
• Fast and reliable response to scripts and a high turnover rate.
• Good communication skills in order to interact confidently and effectively with staff and external providers both verbally and written.
• Confidence in working independently and taking initiative.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
