Role synopsis:

This role sits within the LNG business in International Gas (IG) and is a key control position within the Commodity Risk function and Integrated Supply and Trading Finance. The position is accountable to the Commodity Risk Lead for key aspects of delivery and control. This role will be part of a broader team delivering the core accountabilities of independent daily exposures, risks, working capital, P&L analysis, value-added reporting, and ad-hoc analytics while enforcing the IST Operating Standards and Control Processes.

Key accountabilities:

  • Deliver LNG modernization, automation, and global process standardization initiatives
  • Drive opportunities for efficiencies in processes and controls, while ensuring return on investment of processes and effort are in line with Commodity Risk Management expectations
  • Provide operational input required as part of the process through which new activities and projects considered by the Front Office are being evaluated and approved by IG
  • Produce and quality control management information (e.g. exposure and other risk reported metrics)
  • Ensure accuracy and precision of daily marking, upload, reconciliation, and maintenance of curves, volatilities, and settled prices
  • Monitor transact and hold DoA to ensure in line with BP policy
  • Monitor ILA alerts; resolve/document appropriately and support monthly ILA reviews
  • Conduct and ensure rigorous execution of the monthly IPV process and submission
  • Produce monthly KPIs to support due diligence (e.g. P&L times, deal entry metrics, etc.)
  • Own, understand, and apply Commodity Risk policies and procedures
  • Commodity Risk execution of IST Policy/Procedures and Financial Reporting requirements, involving tax, regulatory and financial disclosures
  • Participation in ad-hoc projects/analysis as required and providing cover for Analysts within team
Essential education:

A University degree in a relevant discipline is a requirement. Degree in Finance, Accounting or Maths is desirable. Professional qualification in risk management (i.e. FRM, ERP, or PRM), financial analysis (i.e. CFA), formally recognized Accounting qualification (ACA, CPA, etc.), business or operations research is also desirable.

Essential experience and job requirements:
  • Business experience in control within a trading environment
  • Demonstrated track record of operational improvement and innovation
  • Strong discipline, attention to detail and ability to work within a very deadline orientated environment
  • Ability to deploy a variety of communication styles according to the situation and communicate effectively with stakeholders and peers
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Understanding of LNG and European natural gas market drivers and physical assets (e.g. storage capacity, pipelines/interconnects, etc.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of energy trading markets and instruments
  • Strong analytical skills (the ability to grasp and communicate complex trading transactions into their economic effects)
Desirable criteria & qualifications:
  • Experience working in Openlink Endur
  • Knowledge of SQL and/or Python
  • Relevant experience preferably in European Gas or LNG Product Control, Market Risk, or Trading roles
  • Understanding of risks concepts (e.g. MVaR, Stress Testing, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of Market and Credit Risk functions
  • Project management experience
