Community Engagement Manager (Western leg of Phase 2b)

As one of the Community Engagement Managers at HS2 you will support the Senior Engagement in the delivery of HS2 engagement activities for a specific section of the route, managing, delivering and evaluating engagement activities, including all related communication materials and relationships with key stakeholders and communities, ensuring the project is proactively interacting within the communities affected by the programme. The role will be based on the Western leg of Phase 2b, which runs from Crewe to Manchester and Wigan.

About the role:
  • Support the delivery of the community & stakeholder engagement along the geographical line of route aligned with the role.
  • Act as the front face of the organisation, developing and deepening relationships with stakeholders such as, Local Authorities, MPs and local representative groups and individuals within communities that may be impacted by the programme.
  • Flag and escalate engagement risks and opportunities and manage and deliver effective and tailored engagement and stakeholder management.
  • Support the successful delivery of engagement performance, including monitoring against KPIs, auditing, assuring and checking quality of outputs.
  • Support the identification of best practices within the Engagement Directorate and the creation of best case studies to share with other teams and to promote the work of the teams both internally and externally.
  • Support the development of the Commonplace sites to ensure consistency and quality of information.
  • Provide local, geographic knowledge to the delivery teams.
  • To support the Engagement senior management in the development of an overview of the communities along the route and their key issues.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.


About you:
  • Experience of working within communities, devising a strategy and managing the delivery of engagement activities in the public and private sectors, on infrastructure projects of similar scale, scope and complexity.
  • Experience of implementing innovative solutions in community engagement and response across a diverse and challenging environment.
  • Experience of working in communications.
  • Experience using new and innovative communication channels.
  • Experience of working in a political and/or regulated environment/sector.
  • Experience of dealing with local or national media during public consultation.
