The Community Relations Officer will be responsible for co-ordinating the relationship between the project and external and internal stakeholders including members of the public and the local community affected by the construction scheme, the client and any additional interested parties.

Smart Motorway Alliance including:
  • M6 J21a and J26 is approximately 16.4km of All Lane Running Smart Motorway.
  • M62 J20 to J26 approximately 32km, of All Lane Running Smart Motorway.
  • Stopped vehicle Detection (SVD) - Technology solution to existing Smart Motorways.
  • Dynamic Hard Shoulder (DHS) - Converting existing DHS to full ALR.
What will I be doing?

Key Responsibilities
  • Initial point of contact for complaints
  • Attendance at Public Meetings and Exhibitions
  • Assisting with the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
  • Handling damage claims and liaison with the relevant insurers.
  • Where necessary supporting in gaining consent with land access.
  • Production of advanced notification plan (letters/flyers).
  • School Liaison - assist Training Coordinator with organising volunteers/STEM Ambassadors and Apprentices/Work experience/Site Visits
  • Personal visits to local residents and community organisations.
  • Monitor updates for HE website and social media.
  • Attend Community and other group meetings.
  • Liaise with local authorities.
  • Supervise handling of vehicles and customers brought to site compound following a breakdown or road traffic accident
  • Assist with production of graphics to be included in presentations and external publicity (including flyers)
  • Assist with Communications - Internal external - social media/flyers/newsfiles
  • Charity/CSR involvement
  • Assist the Community Relations Manager and Skills Manager
  • Considerate Constructors Scheme/Awards submissions
  • Contribute to production and submission of KPI's and CPF
About you

Qualifications and Experience
  • Good organisational and communication skills. Be able to manage a heavy workload, have excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills and IT skills.
  • A proactive approach to seeking to assist the Community Relations Manager. A positive approach to supporting team members and working independently to meet and meet or exceed all of the requirements of internal audits and Client expectations.
  • You will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate confidently and assertively with a variety of people at all levels. A friendly and approachable attitude with a "can do" attitude.
It would be desirable to have experience working on Highways England smart motorway schemes.
