We are looking for a Competency Co-ordinator to assist the Construction Management Organisation by ensuring that personnel hold the appropriate competencies to deliver their role for the duration of the Contract.

Cadent is the UK's largest Gas Distribution Company, operating 4 of the 8 UK Gas Distribution Networks (East of England, London, North West and West Midlands). Their service spans over 131,000 kilometres of pipes supplying to 11 million homes & businesses. They also operate the Gas Emergency Helpline for the whole of the UK.

Cadent's Investment Programme is a critical part of their business, accounting for approximately 60% of the operational workload. The activities includes core mains and service replacement, customer diversions and reinforcement works.

Cadent has tendered a change from a traditional Tier 1 Utilities Contractor framework to a direct relationship with its Tier 2/ 3 supply chain. However, these key operational activities will be managed by a new Construction Management Organisation (CMO) on Cadent's behalf who will also undertake Principal Designer and Principal Contractor duties. Costain is the preferred bidder for the East of England Construction Management organisation (CMO) and as the Client's agent, develop and optimise the Network Investment Programme, scheduling and resourcing the agreed programme, manage 3rd parties, stakeholders, permits and approvals, manage/ supervise/ support the delivery by Cadent's Local Delivery Partners (tier 2 & 3 contractors) and manage all customer relations for an incentivised 10-year contract. The CMO will also undertake Principal Designer and Principal Contractor duties.

What will I be doing?

Accountable for:
  • Working collaboratively with the project population to ensure all training is always up to date and is always delivered to the highest standard
Responsible for:
  • Maintain training and competency matrix and associated records to ensure that personnel undertaking work on the Contract hold the requisite competencies in accordance with industry standards and legislation
  • Build an understanding of key training courses and competence assessment required
  • Identify gaps in competence and ensure plan is in place to close
  • Co-ordinate training events, book venues, log course bookings and send out joining instructions
  • Liaise with training providers to produce bespoke courses for business needs
  • Liaise with venue contacts, trainers/ presenters and participants.
  • Ensure that training is booked in line with an approved training provider
  • Complete the training administration process by logging participant attendance and course evaluation
  • Collate course event feedback and record results for continual improvement
  • Providing updates with relevant information and accurate reports that track training activity performance
  • Liaise with accounts team to settle any invoices and raise purchase orders for external training providers and venues
  • Assist in any ad hoc training projects that result in continuous improvements to the team and the wider CMO disciplines and processes
  • Be a pro-active and helpful team member of the team
  • Actively participates in and promotes company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures
About you
  • Competent in using MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role or strong administration and/ or co-ordination skills
  • High levels of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic knowledge of Health, Safety Environmental with a keen interest to learn more about the discipline
  • Positive and Flexible attitude
Qualifications & training:
  • 2 years previous experience in a similar role ideally within a utilities/ construction/ engineering environment
  • Knowledge of Training and Development with keen interest to learn more about the discipline.
