The opportunity

Project: Provision of delivery and integration management services to the client.

The Mace Defence business has undergone rapid growth since its inception. Today, we advise a range of clients, including governments, front line commands and private sector defence organisations, where we advise on some of the most nationally significant projects.

Our service lines continue to grow as well, offering commercial, procurement, project management and project controls consultancy services, drawing on our cross-sector experience and priding ourselves on being able to bridge between strategy and delivering practical benefits to our clients.

We are specifically looking for candidates who are able to work in one of the following regions of Gloucestershire, East Anglia and Cambridgeshire. A mix of remote working and being on location will be considered for the right candidates.

You would be joining Mace at a time of exciting growth and Mace prides itself on giving its employees the opportunity to excel and to grow with the company.

At Mace Defence, our clients entrust our employees with great responsibility on significant programmes across the project lifecycle where you have the platform to make lasting, tangible improvements to clients' organisations.

PMO Services is a business unit within Mace's Consultancy division. PMO Services provides leadership, direction and support across Mace client-facing projects in the setting up, resourcing and running of project and programme management offices (PMOs) for these client projects. PMO Services is organised as an integrated collection of practices reflecting the different functional disciplines that a PMO typically oversees for major construction projects and programmes, including:
  • Integrated project controls
  • Schedule planning
  • Cost and commercial management
  • Risk and opportunity management
  • KPI capture
  • Reporting and performance management
  • Assurance
  • IT and digital
  • Information management
  • Process methodology, standards and quality management
The IT consultancy service is a core discipline within PMO services, complementing these other services. It is run as a practice with a small, but growing, team of consultants whose remit is primarily to establish and operate suitable IT services to enable and support the PMO team and delivery teams in running and delivering client projects.

Each client is different, and each project is different, hence the specific mix of IT services we look to put in place, and how we provide them, varies from client to client and project to project. There are, however, some core approaches, services, and specific IT systems, that feature on nearly all client projects. The IT consultancy practice works closely with our PMO services partner practices to establish those standards.

Our role is not just to put in place standard IT solutions - we innovate and are creative in our approach, and we typically start by understanding the needs of the project and project team and by defining tailored strategies and solutions to fit.

Increasingly our role is not just about IT services but is evolving more towards digital ways of working, as well as taking a lead in data protection, information security and business continuity in projects.

We get involved in bidding on new project work to provide expert guidance to shape the IT and Digital elements of the bid proposal and we typically answer the bid questions relating to systems, digital, information security, data protection and business continuity.

We have also recently expanded the IT consultancy practice to include SharePoint and MS-365 toolkit development and digital ways of working.

Beyond client-facing work we also sit on various forums, boards and working groups within Mace and Mace Consult to help innovate, evolve, and share learnings and best practice on aspects of IT, information security, data protection, business continuity and disaster recovery, and digital ways of working.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Own business analysis within client projects and be accountable for the successful understanding, requirements capture and shaping the delivery of IT solutions and services.

  • Structuring requirements gathering sessions, gathering, documenting and prioritising requirements.
