The Role / Position Overview

Financial Times Live (FT Live) is the conferences and events division of the Financial Times newspaper and its group publications. Our mission is to bring our global executive audiences the very latest in knowledge and opinion, and connect them to one another.

 

Chaired by senior FT journalists, the 200-plus core events, strategic forums and digital webinars organised by FT Live every year gather pre-eminent public and private sector decision-makers, visionaries and strategists from the world’s most important economies and industries for agenda-setting debates that cover the key issues of our time.

 

From unique experiences such as the FTWeekend Festival to our senior-level business summits such as the award winning Global Boardroom, FT Live has become one of the FT Group’s most successful and fastest-growing divisions, and is at the forefront of the FT’s accelerated development as an essential, interactive information source across numerous platforms.

FT Live is currently recruiting for Content Portfolio Managers. We have multiple openings for individuals to join and take responsibility for one of three industry portfolios: Finance, Energy & Climate Change and Leadership (Women at the Top & Legal). 

Key Responsibilities

  • Full strategic ownership of the sector; you will be tasked with creating a 3 year strategic plan to grow the portfolio

  • Overseeing content delivery for global thought-provoking and commercially viable events across multiple formats 

  • Conducting a thorough sector research programme and developing relationships with internal (including FT Journalists) and external stakeholders to grow core events, identify business opportunities and contribute to revenue generation efforts

  • Devising the strategy and schedule for new event launches

  • Joining commercial conversations to test new concepts and ensure portfolio growth  

  • Creating effective working relationships with other teams and departments across the wider business

  • Devising commercial and marketing strategies with key counterparts

  • Researching, writing and producing innovative, high-quality event programmes for global core events, and confirming exceptional speakers

  • Managing and mentoring – where required – junior content editors or freelancers 

  • Contributing to organisational and process changes needed to deliver results in a dynamic live and virtual events business

  • Liaising with FT editorial to optimise the use of FT.com video and other FT digital output to enhance FT Live events.

Required Skills / Experience 

  • Demonstrate they can launch and execute new events, and grow existing events

  • Possess proven B2B event background 

  • Be able to work within a large, dynamic and fast moving international business

  • Build strong relationships with external stakeholders and uses strong project management and writing skills to deliver high quality events.

  • Use strong organisational, project management, and analytical abilities to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm.

  • Excellent written and spoken English, and strong communication skills.

  • Gains the confidence of others by modelling honesty, integrity, authenticity, and behaviours that align with FT Live’s values. Exemplifies courage by stepping up to address challenging issues.

  • Actively seeks new ways to grow and be challenged using formal and informal development channels.

  • A good understanding and keen interest in the issues affecting global business, and an interest in current affairs.

  • Able to quickly adapt to change and embrace digital innovations transforming the media and events space. Experience in producing digital content and launching virtual events. 

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience in one or more relevant industries: Finance, Energy, Diversity, Legal.
