What you will do

The role would consist of and but not be limited to the below tasks. This is an evolving role and therefore this specification may evolve during the transition period and beyond.

Transition project
  • Become familiar with the current UKTV continuity process
  • Work with the Project team, including COM and key business areas (tech & ops, media planning) to establish a new process for continuity production and delivery to the new playout provider, which will run alongside the existing provider during the transition period.
  • Assist with the testing of the new playout system and production processes
  • Support the transition of existing voiceovers to the new system by completing entries as well as conducting data and audio checks to assess quality and accuracy
  • Support the transition of new recordings back to the existing playout provider
  • Support the continuity production co-ordinator with announcer recording schedules and booking the Farm facilities as part of the transition
  • Update and refresh all training material with new systems and processes (including Barrcode, Whats'On/WON, hardware requirements etc.). Train new UKTV colleagues in the new systems and processes.
  • Work with the project team to resolve any issues
  • Carry out any additional duties associated with the transition as required
  • Work on the continued transition of the announcers across to UKTV and the set up of the team
  • Ensure the continuity transition delivers successfully
  • Assist with creating the new live continuity process (for ad-hoc stunts) and support testing this on the new playout system (this will be after the initial transition to new playout)
    Ongoing responsibilities - production and delivery of continuity service
  • Key responsibility for the end-to-end continuity service, including production, delivery, and output
  • Ensure continuity is delivered accurately and timely, this is ongoing and for transition, to ensure a positive viewer experience across our channels
  • Be the lead team superuser of continuity operating system Barrcode and scheduling system What's On
  • Along with the continuity production co-ordinator, ensure all operational and editorial system checks are completed, to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Complete data entry as and when this is required
  • Complete system audio checks as and when these are required
  • Effectively manage schedule changes and unforeseen events, taking necessary action such as re-records, data checks, audio checks etc. with the support of the continuity production co-ordinator
  • With the support of the COM, take responsibility to ensure continuity production is within budget
  • Be motivated and proactive in identifying issues and offering solutions, working quickly to resolve issues
    Be flexible to changing priorities and demands on continuity playout
  • Complete additional duties as required
People management
  • Manage and develop the continuity production coordinator to produce the best continuity for UKTV
  • Manage and guide a team of freelance announcers and writers to deliver compliant, accurate, editorially sound, and on-brief continuity in line with agreed timescale
  • Recruitment, training, and on-boarding for new UKTV continuity colleagues, and any refresher training for existing UKTV colleagues
  • Provide role cover for the COM and continuity production coordinator when necessary
Voiceover management
  • Support the continuity production coordinator in managing the announcer recording schedule, working closely with the Farm and creative team to in booking Farm facilities
  • Support the continuity production coordinator and relevant parties to ensure that recordings are complete and delivered to the playout system, all necessary checks and communications are carried out.
  • Liaise with relevant parties to ensure that late recording requests, changes or missing items are resolved.
  • Be the key liaison for voiceover operational issues and queries, resolving them timely and accurately.
  • Complete editorial script checks as required. Ensuring scripts are on brief and compliant with editorial guidelines
  • Write voiceover scripts when necessary, in some cases for high profile talent.
  • Manage the new announcer search and casting process from original initial brief to on-air playout
  • Produce and direct talent voiceovers as and when required
  • Ensure talent has a positive experience of working with UKTV
  • Be an out of hours/emergency contact for the continuity team
  • In ad hoc very special circumstances, be prepared to carry out voiceovers if necessary
  • Once set up, occasional management, production and directing of live continuity as and when required
Collaboration
  • Harness team spirit across UKTV by collaborating with colleagues across the business to deliver a successful on-going service
  • Regularly review continuity production with Media Planning to ensure briefs are being delivered to expectations
  • Be across show launches, special projects, brand updates and launches, providing input around continuity production and delivering as required
  • Work with announcers to ensure tone is correct, providing constructive feedback as required
  • Assist with and provide guidance for the wider media planning team and other departs as needed
  • Ensure communication between stakeholders and key parties is timely, accurate, and informative
  • Assist the COM in exploring opportunities to further develop the in-house continuity service
