We are currently seeking a commercial lawyer to join our Global Legal function on a full-time, permanent basis from January 2021. Reporting to the Head of Legal - Commercial, you'll be providing timely and flexible support across a range of areas of law (including Contract/Commercial, IT/IP and Data Protection).

This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit legal team, advising on challenging, strategically important deals with a wide range of clients including start-ups, blue chips, financial institutions and US/internationally based household names, within a supportive and collegiate environment. You will have solid experience of drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and managing IP and Data Protection in the commercial context throughout the Americas.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Acting as lead legal resource in the US for SHL products and services by providing high quality, commercial and pragmatic advice and solutions for the SHL commercial teams (engaging external counsel as necessary).
  • Reviewing and negotiating Terms & Conditions, MSAs, SaaS Agreements, RFPs and other types of agreements, providing advice and solutions in relation to a wide range of related issues.
  • Data Protection contractual negotiations, including reviews of data processing agreements and supporting data privacy compliance projects across the business.
  • Expertise on the legal considerations for assessment and selection treatment under US state and federal law as well as e compliance with local, national and international laws, rules and regulations.
  • Supporting any litigation matters that SHL may become involved in, including IP infringement, and credit/collection/bankruptcy matters.
  • Assisting with legal training and development as identified to support the SHL business and the team, including providing support and guidance to junior legal team members.
  • Assisting with and undertaking ad hoc projects as required.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and member of the bar in a state of the United States
  • Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years spent in-house
  • Good understanding of contract and commercial law, coupled with strong drafting, negotiating and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Able to operate in a matrixed organization reporting to overseas manager and supporting US sales leadership
  • Organized and able to demonstrate a consistently high level of legal analysis and attention to detail
  • Knowledge and understanding of company and commercial law and practices
  • Good attitude, coupled with an ability to establish and grow relationships and credibility with people at all levels within the business
  • Ability to deliver a high standard of work prioritizing under time constraints
