The Data Governance Specialist is a key role to help promote cultural change and monitor ongoing compliance with our core data principles and the data strategy.

Accountabilities:

  • Developing a governance framework to allow adequate monitoring of ongoing business change.
  • Attend and review ongoing change governance forums to understand key business drivers and data impacts.
  • Chairing and supporting data working groups as part of the global data strategy.
  • Championing best practice and helping the CDO to drive a cultural change about how data is used.
  • Reviewing and proposing change to the data policy and data strategy.
  • Working with the Data Management Specialists to promote data management outcomes in change projects.
  • Deputising for the Chief Data Officer at relevant committees as required.
  • Tracking and quantifying ongoing data debt and related technical debt.
  • Work with change programmes to ensure common data requirements are addressed.

Essential experience:

We are seeking someone with a creative spark and experience in data management and data quality. Ideally, you'll have experience at both developing and deploying data management frameworks. You'll need:

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • To be passionate about using data for continuous improvement.
  • To be organised and able to structure inputs from multiple change programmes into a single cohesive view for management reporting.
  • Comfortable working across multiple departments in a global organisation to deliver change.
  • A good understanding of how data can generate value and support the business operations
  • The ability to engage with business users (senior and junior) to champion change and new concepts.
  • Leadership skills, team working skills and the ability to remain focused on helping the business gain value through data.
  • A willingness to promote a data driven culture where data is at the heart of our business
  • Proven experience managing and implementing data related change
  • Experience chairing governance forums/committees.
  • SQL queries

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience implementing data management in a financial services environment especially Oil, Gas or Power trading
  • Experience using Microsoft Power BI
  • An appreciation of data science and machine learning application and their requirements for data.
