Facebook seeks a highly experienced and motivated data protection and privacy professional to fill the role of Manager, Office of Data Protection for the Facebook family of companies (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus). This person will be focused on advising on European data protection and privacy requirements with a particular focus on the embedding of privacy by design in both product and service development.Facebook recognizes the importance of data protection and privacy to the millions of people who use its services, and in ensuring compliance with data protection law and the EU's General Data Protection Regulation ('GDPR'). Data Protection Manager, Governance Responsibilities

  • Providing robust pragmatic advice on privacy by design issues such as transparency, purpose limitation and data governance issues for a controller, helping operational teams embed privacy by design and accountability on topics including consent, Privacy Impact Assessments, fairness, legitimate interests, age consents and codes of practice.

  • Advising the business on various risks and obligations under GDPR, taking into account other European privacy and data protection laws and regulations.

  • Representing the DPO Office to data subjects and data protection authorities and reporting to the executive of the Facebook family of companies.

  • Considering new and forthcoming legislation such as the AVMSD, the Digital Services Act, the Digital Markets Act, the Data Governance Act to ensure your advice is reflective of an innovative, collaborative, cross-functional approach to creating sustainable assessment methodologies for compliant products and services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with 10-15 years experience in privacy, substantial data protection experience and a solid grasp of how to apply GDPR, EU/US Privacy Shield and applicable privacy regulations as they interact with laws in other regions.

  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively to assess the impact of project initiatives on data subject's privacy and data protection, as well as the impact of laws and regulations on products and services online.

  • A team player with sharp analytical and communication skills, who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, organized and has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking, leading and driving organization-wide multi-stakeholder work programmes from inception to conclusion on a cross functional basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Driven, rResilient and experienced in providing key advice on European privacy and data protection to both legal and non-legal colleagues.

  • Demonstrable interest in aActively building your knowledge about emerging technologies, as well as privacy and information security code policies, standards and guidelines.

  • A strong interest in the development of strategic privacy frameworks and how they influence technology to deliver practical, commercial and creative approaches to ensure privacy compliance.
