Facebook is seeking an individual with experience in privacy and data protection to join the Office of the Data Protection Officer. This individual should be able to advise the company on a range of privacy, data protection and security-related legal and compliance initiatives. This is a full-time position located in our European headquarters in Dublin, Ireland (preferred). We are looking for a team player with sharp analytical and communication skills, who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, organized and has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking, with the ability to lead and drive organization wide multi-stakeholder work programmes from inception to conclusion on a cross functional basis.Facebook welcomes applications from the widest range of individuals eligible to apply and particularly encourages applications from those who would increase the diversity of the company.

Data Protection Manager, Privacy Responsibilities

  • Provide formal advice concerning compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), ensuring that all advice is able to be tied back to specific provisions in applicable legislation, signing off on external experts' contributions where necessary.

  • Execute written ODPO advisory views, ensuring it can be easily understood by both lawyers and non-lawyers and prepare quarterly executive reports on progress, helping to manage the central DPO email inbox.

  • Work as a business partner to drive and build privacy into activities from the outset and then re-assess in good time with relevant XFN teams for subsequent changes in processing of personal data.

  • Work with cross functional teams to support effective Data Protection Impact Assessments and investigations, driving engagement with XFN partners to evaluate the impact of legislative, regulatory, legal developments and industry proposals related to the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") across Facebook's services and companies.

  • Assess the impact of Facebook services and products on data subjects' rights relating to privacy and data protection and provide advice with clear legal/operational reasoning.

  • Drive analysis, investigation and responses to DPO data subject requests, identifying trends, creating key performance indicators on a quarterly basis, ensuring consistency with previous advice and decisions.

  • Provide clarity on new or alternative advice or positions to help operational teams deliver ongoing and sustainable improvement in data governance according to GDPR principles.

  • Draft guidance, ensuring all materials can be cross referenced back to original legal provisions to create accessible information for multiple audiences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in delivering and managing complex projects collaboratively from end to end, including sharp focus on multi-tasking and organisational skills, prioritizing and working alongside cross-functional teams operating at scale and speed, where necessary

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an absolute commitment to professionalism and collegiality

  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills, including the ability to assess risk and impact from a privacy and data protection perspective

  • Ability to independently, quickly and accurately assess legal, practical and business risks in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments

  • Attention to detail and strong drafting ability that can be used in a commercial setting with business stakeholders, allied to demonstrable capabilities of drafting executive reports and analyzing dashboards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to inspire others to develop, communicate and execute diverse and multiple privacy requirements under privacy legislation, translating complex technical issues into business language, with the confidence to communicate with a range of stakeholders at all levels of the business.

  • Experienced in delivering projects, with particular emphasis on strong technical knowledge of how technology is used to deliver evidence of compliance.

  • Experience with the General Data Protection Regulation, as well as other global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media and Internet companies

  • Excellent written and oral communication and advocacy skills, with demonstrable experience of prioritising effectively and managing diverse and multiple requirements.

  • Experience and an understanding of wider regulatory pressures would be beneficial, with IAPP certification as a data protection professional (CIPP/E, CIPP/M, CIPP/T) preferable.
