Facebook seeks a highly experienced and motivated data protection and privacy professional to fill the role of Manager , Office of Data Protection for the Facebook family of companies (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus). This person will be focused on advising on European data protection and privacy requirements and compliance for product and service development, with particular focus on driving consistency of accountability documentation, privacy impact assessments etc. Facebook recognises the importance of data protection and privacy to the millions of people who use its services and in ensuring compliance with data protection law and the EU's General Data Protection Regulation ('GDPR'). Data Protection Manager, Reviews Responsibilities

  • Advising the business on various risks and obligations under GDPR, taking into account other European privacy and data protection laws and regulations

  • Representing the DPO Office to data subjects and data protection authorities and reporting to the executive of the Facebook family of companies.

  • Providing robust pragmatic reviews and advice on key privacy issues from the lens of the Office of the DPO, such as contractual necessity, legitimate interest and anonymisation for a controller, helping operational teams build strong accountability and compliance documentation and practices

  • Embed privacy by design in products and services through services and accountability through the use of Privacy Impact Assessments and other , privacy assurance documentation and driving privacy controls by addressing principles dealing with sensitive data, age consents and other types of information using guidance and codes of practice.

  • Considering new and forthcoming legislation such as the AVMSD, the Digital Services Act, the Digital Markets Act, the Data Governance Act to ensure your advice is reflective of an innovative, collaborative, cross-functional approach to creating sustainable assessment methodologies for compliant products and services.

  • Work with cross functional teams on new privacy and data-related regulatory developments, including in the area of digital identity, and will ensure alignment and compliance, particularly in respect of new technology for artificial intelligence, authentication and data localization.

  • Henable the development in accordance with accountability requirementsto develop sustainable Data Protection Impact Assessment methodologies as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with 10-15 years experience in privacy, substantial data protection experience and a solid grasp of how to apply GDPR, EU/US Privacy Shield and applicable privacy regulations as they interact with laws in other regions.

  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively to assess the impact of project initiatives on data subject's privacy and data protection, as well as the impact of laws and regulations on products and services online.

  • A team player with sharp analytical and communication skills, who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, organized and has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking, leading and driving organization-wide multi-stakeholder work programmes from inception to conclusion on a cross functional basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively building your knowledge about emerging technologies and can confidently engage with technologists such as data scientists and data architects to explore alternative design options to achieve effective compliance.

  • A strong interest in the development of strategic privacy frameworks and how they influence technology to deliver practical, commercial and creative approaches to ensure privacy compliance.
