The role

A Data Technical Lead will join the Data and Analytics team to lead the Data Efficiency team. The Data Technical Lead will be managing a cross functional delivery team of seven Engineers, Data Scientists and Analysts. The role will own technical leadership, delivery, all people management and system ownership pertaining to the team. The role will require a broad involvement with all areas from Data Engineering to BI, but we are mainly expecting main technical hands on tasks to revolve around Data Science efforts mainly driving efficiencies Product Buy and Price optimisation.

Working closely with the Data Efficiency team Product manager, this role will coordinate and oversee all delivery of development work through to production support. The main development focus will most likely be Data Science focused work (e.g. ML) but expect to traverse the entire delivery stack from design, development architecture and ownership.


About you:
  • You are a passionate Data expert with a wide technical ability with a core expertise in Data Science and a broader knowledge/understanding covering Data Engineering within Big Data technologies, Databases (including knowledge of Data warehousing) and standard Business Intelligence uses.
  • Desirable to have experience within Spark (Databricks a plus)
  • Cloud native (desirable AWS exp.)
  • Polyglot developer but we would expect you to be an expert in Python and SQL. Scala/Java desirable
  • Broader engineering knowledge and familiarity with Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, etc), APIs, DevOps principles (CI/CD), Terraform for infrastructure as code), TDD/BDD and good test automation appreciation.
What you'll be doing:
  • Managing the delivery of Efficiency teamwork from Data Science (expected core skill area), BI, and Database/Data Engineering disciplines.
  • Ownership of Product Efficiency team Products across a shared platform landscape BI (MicroStrategy), Unified Analytics, Big Data processing and Data Science model governance (Databricks/AWS) and Data Warehousing (SQL Server).
  • Efficiency team Data Engineering ELT/ETL pipeline ingestion of data into the Data Lake (typically Databricks Spark or AWS Lambda workloads) , onwards to our Data Warehouse (SQL Server).
  • Maintaining and further expanding high standards of delivery and behaviour through Agile principles and evolving the teams SCRUM maturity, Sprint and Team Health.
