Network Rail Design Delivery (NRDD) within Route Service is the Network Rail's in-house design consultancy which provides a managed service for design delivery. NRDD brings a range of different disciplines together including Buildings & Civils, Signalling, Track and Electrical & Plant, which comprises more than 600 technical staff across the UK.
Brief Description

This position is for the role of Design Engineer (Civils). You will report to a Senior Design Engineer and work in collaboration with other designers on single and multi-disciplinary schemes. The projects that you will be working on will range from feasibility and early optioneering through to detailed design of assets such as bridges, culverts and foundations for ancillary structures.
About the role (External)

As a design engineer, you are expected to deliver the work within your field, for the corresponding design stage, safely and to the appropriate level of technical quality. You may lead a small number of other designers & engineering technicians, to support the project manager in ensuring the project is delivered to programme and budget.

You will ideally be working towards Chartership through a relevant engineering institution and have good knowledge of construction and on-site experience. You will have the ability to prioritise and manage tasks efficiently to ensure all deadlines & commercial goals are met and have good communication skills.
These the things you will need to have:
  • An engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification
  • CDM, risk assessment competency / experience.
  • An ability to work and communicate effectively in a team context.
  • A demonstrable aptitude for option development.
  • Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
  • A working knowledge of rail engineering; relevant successful experience working in Civils and an understanding of all other related disciplines.
  • An appreciation of all the life cycle stages of rail infrastructure.
