Job description

DevOps Engineers work as part of the enablement function by assisting teams in integrating a DevOps approach by means of technical ability, process and mindset. A DevOps engineer will focus on enabling teams to leverage modern techniques and toolsets to allow for automated processes - such as build, test and deployment by utilising cloud technologies and Infrastructure as Code. They will use their collaborative mindset to understand teams requirements and dynamics and assist them in building pipelines to improve consistency and frequency into deployments. They will develop dashboards for use by the team and stakeholders to understand key metrics such as time to market, time to recovery and failure rates.

DevOps Engineers help teams within a service by:
  • Building and running production systems
  • Ensuring teams have consistent, predictable and rapid build and deployment cycles
  • Assisting in automation of all aspects of the software development lifecycle
  • Working with developers to optimise existing applications and design new ones
  • Encouraging everyone (Developers, Agile Delivery Managers, Product Managers) to think about how new applications will be run and maintained

Specific Role Requirements

The role will be team enabling in nature so as a result will require a broad technical skillset and the ability to quickly learn relevant technologies for our products and services. However the following experience would be considered highly desirable:
  • Significant background working in DevOps/Platform Engineering
  • Delivering solutions with Azure and/or GCP using modern tool sets such as:
    • IaC using Terraform Enterprise
    • Puppet
    • Rancher
    • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Working knowledge of a variety of scripting languages (i.e. Powershell, Bash, Python)
  • Configuring and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using:
    • Git/Github
    • Azure DevOps
  • SAST and DAST Security tools such as Veracode, Sonarqube and Burp Suite
  • Monitoring tools such as Dynatrace and AppDyamics
