4Studio is the engine room for C4's digital acceleration strategy, with the primary mission to create, adapt and distribute content across the key digital and social media channels.

The primary activities of 4Studio will be to curate (existing) and create (new) short-form content and distribute it through actively managed social media channels. 4Studio will work very closely with key people and departments within C4, including commissioning, marketing and commercial.

4Studio is based in C4's new National HQ in Leeds and is a key component of C4's regional strategy, creating creative job opportunities outside London and expanding the diversity of the company's creative contribution.


In order to generate the world class digital content that is needed to make Channel 4 Corporation the market leader in digital presence and innovation, we need a world class creative and content team. The successful applicant will be a core part of that team.

We're looking for an exceptional individual with enthusiasm and fresh ideas in equal measure. Working alongside a dedicated team of digital creatives, producers and editors, you will come up with first class original social formats, strands and digital series for 4Studio to make and publish. These will be cross-genre and developed to serve the needs of our social audience, as well as commercial clients.

You'll be someone who lives and breathes digital originals and knows how to develop platform-specific content to engage young audiences. An ideas person through and through, you won't be afraid to push boundaries and rip up the rule book to try something new and innovative. You'll know who the next wave of big talent are online, and ahead of the curve when it comes to tracking the latest content and social series that blow up online.

You'll be suggesting proactive original ideas that build awareness and affinity for Channel 4 and E4's channels and programmes through established and emerging social media platforms, and work closely with Social and Analytics teams to ideate new content strands that can super-serve existing audiences, as well as help find new ones.

You'll also be a master of organisation, from logging and keeping a comprehensive format bank up to date, to balancing the needs (and emails!) of multiple internal and external stakeholders.

You will need to develop ideas that can be delivered on time, to brief and budget, and to C4's editorial standards and compliance, working closely with the Digital Producers, Editors and Sales team to execute projects with varying scope and resource.

This role is based in the Leeds office and the job holder will be required to liaise with the a broader cross-departmental team spread across our Nations & Regions offices on any given project, to ensure as coherent an approach as possible.

  • You'll be the founder member of the digital development team, responsible for devising and delivering best-in-class digital content ideas both independently and to brief
  • You'll work with the production and edit team to take ideas from concept through to reality
  • You will work closely with our Digital Commissioners to devise first-class multi-genre ideas in response to branded content and editorial briefs
  • You'll understand the clear differences between developing for TV and developing for social-first audiences, and able to articulate and demonstrate the difference when needed
  • You'll work closely with our Analytics and Social team to deep-dive into data to identify new opportunities to super-serve audiences across a variety of platforms
  • You will liaise effectively with members of the 4Studio Social Media team, 4Studio Sales team, TV commissioning, legal and compliance as required, ensuing Channel 4's editorial standard is at the forefront of everything you do.
  • You will develop ideas with varying budgets and delivery time scales in mind, ensuring they can be met
  • You'll work in our Leeds HQ as part of 4Studio, and in partnership with multiple other stakeholders.

Technical & Professional Skills
  • Experience working for a digital media company, in social or digital production and have brilliant examples of content you have developed and how you made it a success
  • Experience developing and executing ideas for brands, and responding to commercial briefs
  • Must be socially native, with a strong understanding of what content audiences engage with online applying this knowledge to new ideas.
  • Important for the job holder to keep up to date with creative and digital / social media trends and have a passion for cutting edge creative and innovation.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of editorial processes, compliance, guidelines and production - able to make tough editorial decisions, and communicate those in a way that benefits editorial
  • Should be a quick learner and have evidence of pushing the boundaries.
  • Would ideally have an understanding of post-production processes including delivering assets to a variety of technical specifications.
  • You will have a good understanding of production budgets and how much an idea may cost to make.
  • will need to be tonally versatile as you will be developing ideas for a range of audiences, platforms, brands and clients.
Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making
  • Should be confident in making creative decisions.
  • Works on broad variety of matters within the content spectrum, and will sometimes be required to come up with unique content ideas quickly and with tight deadlines
  • Must be highly organised.
  • Ability to give constructive feedback and back up decisions with evidence
  • You would ideally be familiar with the Ofcom code and broadcast regulations
  • Our target audience are a diverse bunch and Channel 4 exists to promote diversity. You will need to be empathetic towards this diverse bunch and be able to interact with them in ways that feel natural to them - and most importantly, generate ideas to ensure their stories are being told as truthfully as possible.
  • An understanding of Channel 4s brand values and remit.
Managing Resources
  • Ability to negotiate with and manage local resource (production companies, video editors, motion graphics artists, designers, production assistants etc.) when required.
  • Will manage digital production workflows.
  • Experience of line management responsibility an advantage
Relationship Management
  • Must establish a close working relationship with all 4Studio teams and suppliers, and be able to communicate with other departments to meet differing demands.
  • Must be willing to travel between Leeds, London and Glasgow if required.
  • Works regularly with a mixture of people from managers, immediate team, and third party suppliers.
  • Must be collaborative in their approach.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
