About the team:

You will lead a team delivering communications, public affairs and engagement activities for external and internal audiences across wide range of functions. These will include strategic communications oversight, internal and external communications, community engagement, and staff engagement including the trust's Listening into Action programme. In addition, you will oversee a new Capital Projects Programme communications and engagement function as we progress with our plans for investing £140 million in modern new mental healthcare services and facilities at our Maudsley Hospital site, providing better care and experience for local people and staff.

About the role:

The Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement is a non-voting member of the Trust Board. The role will contribute to corporate decision making and the strategic development of the Trust. The post holder will lead, and be accountable for, the communications, stakeholder engagement and public affairs function providing professional advice, expertise and strategic leadership on all aspects of internal and external communication. This includes maximising opportunities to promote South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust upholding and enhance its brand and reputation.

You will be working closely with the Chief Executive, the Trust Board, senior colleagues and stakeholders to take a lead role in developing and supporting the implementation of the Trust's strategic plans through creating a coherent, compelling supporting strategic narrative that supports the reputation of the Trust. This includes establishing and communicating the key messages and objectives of the Trust in order to promote the trust as a great place to work, using a range of media including the website, stakeholder bulletins, social media and special events working across organisational boundaries and systems. Importantly, this role will be key in delivering a range of trust wide service user and carer activities aimed at improving experience, raising awareness of mental health, and challenging the stigma that people face.

About the location:

Our Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). We also provide services and operate across other locations, such as London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; and substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Lambeth, Greenwich and Wandsworth.
