What's the role about?We are recruiting for a Director of Technical, Sourcing & Supplier Management to join our team at John Lewis & Partners.In this role, you will use your expert commerciality to strengthen our supplier relationships, our breadth of sourcing experience and the quality of our products, by leading the teams accountable for delivering best in class technical quality, sourcing and supplier management. You will ensure the Partnership achieves best in class product quality with ultimate accountability for product safety, optimal supplier and sourcing relationships including accountability for new sources of supply to deliver the Partnership's margin and differentiation objectives and lead a consistent commitment to the ethical sourcing strategy defined by our Head of Corporate Responsibility.You will have accountability for the ongoing development and performance of the Partnership's satellite sourcing offices in India and Hong Kong and our manufacturing unit Herbert Parkinson in Darwen, UK.You will lead teams with accountability across a balance of customer and commercial metrics and a goal to execute and deliver in line with Partnership Strategy, and work alongside the Buying Directors to deliver best in class products. You will lead teams where results are embedded in the broader customer vision, and you are recognised for unparalleled collaboration in all you do, using your influence to safeguard Partnership reputation.  

Job Requirements
What you'll be doing as Director of Technical, Sourcing & Suppier Management at John Lewis & PartnersSome of the primary accountabilities of this role include:- Setting clear intent, direction and guardrails within Quality & Technical, Supplier Management and Sourcing to achieve outcomes aligned to the Partnership strategy.  - Working alongside other senior stakeholders to build the most effective sourcing and supplier management whilst ensuring product safety and the highest technical and quality standards appropriate to the Partnership strategy.- Building and executing the strategy to develop the most effective supply chain for John Lewis & Partners and general merchandise across the Partnership. Driving a growth in margin via our own direct sources of supply and sourcing offices, and via the supplier management team delivering incremental margin and supplier funding. Looking for ways to consolidate and shorten our supply chain whilst increasing profit to the Partnership.  - As a specialist in people, leading a high performing team in a way that is consistent with the Partnership's values. Taking personal accountability for talent and succession planning, and creating a diverse environment where difference thrives.  - Setting the technical vision and strategy for the Partnership that ensures our Brands meet all product, legal, quality, safety and performance requirements. Taking accountability for food and product safety.  - Setting vision and direction for the sourcing and supplier management strategy, driving the most commercial value from our manufacturing business, Herbert Parkinson, and our International Sourcing Offices for the Partnership. Working with Directors of Category Proposition Groups to influence and drive a step change to sourcing ways of working within Buying and Merchandising Professions using data, insight and effective relationships that drive both commercial and customer outcomes.  - Providing leadership and expertise to the Executive Team and Commercial Operating Group on all matters relating to product safety, quality and technical performance.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications
What you'll have- Technical and Trading/Sourcing experience across multiple product categories.- A proven track record in growing margins and improving profitability through sourcing and supplier management.- Can demonstrate the management and development of a large global team and remote International and domestic offices.- A high level of strategic thinking.- Understanding of global sourcing and supply chains.- Can demonstrate an ability to build relationships with key stakeholders to build a unified strategy between sourcing, quality and buying.- Knowledge of the latest and emerging sources of supply and an affinity with some of the world's largest consumer goods. - Understanding of CSR and its impact on global sourcing.- Innovative, commercial and strategic. Can challenge established thinking to drive an improved result and achieve the buy in of all stakeholders.- A knowledge and experience of sourcing offices and manufacturing.- Understands the latest global quality standards of general merchandise.- Can demonstrate an ability to build relationships with third party brands.
