What we're looking for

An Operations Transformation Director with deep retail sector knowledge to help shape and deliver front office operations transformation engagements across the end to end Retail value chain.

The retail industry is in transformation; undergoing unprecedented change and pressure. Channel shift, record levels of discounting and rising costs are forcing all retailers to address their customer offer and propositions, and in turn transform their business models and cost structures. This level of change represents a significant opportunity for the UK firm, with multi-million-pound operations transformation opportunities with both food & non-food retailers; Tesco, ALDI, M&S, Sainsbury's, Shop Direct, Kingfisher and Dixons, as well as inbound opportunities with the likes of Carrefour.

Our ability to be successful in this market both in the UK as well as internationally therefore will require a Director with deep retail and end to end operations experience, who can interact with Retail front office functions (sourcing, ranging, product development, technical, operating model) to deliver transformation programmes that will cover retail op model, cost reduction, and retail tech (whether SAP or Oracle). This is a model we have successfully built for finance and supply chain in CPG, by combining functional directors with SAP technical directors, and now need to replicate that model for Retail operations.

The retail operations director will focus on conversion and delivery of profitable long-term major programmes. They will have a track record of successfully engaging with senior level stakeholders within retail. As a result, they will be able to drive at least £1.5m NCR, deliver engagement sell on, and improve engagement profitability. The Director will also support the leadership of the Operations competency, the Operations Transformation Integrated Solution, and the R&C sector more broadly, through business development, proposition development, and thought leadership.


We are seeking an experienced operations director with strong experience and track record of commercial acumen, leading consulting teams, and developing long lasting client relationships (based on content and sector perspectives) to expand our R&C operations team. Deep retail sector experience is needed.
  • Functional skills will include front office operations such as sourcing, ranging, product development, technical, operating model
  • Excellent client handling skills and track record of being able to operate at Board / Exec level, viewed by clients as an expert in this field
  • Have extensive Operations and transformation experience with Retail experience both in the UK and internationally
  • Manage and deliver complex projects by developing the project team, assessing engagement risks throughout, driving conclusions, and reviewing / challenging the output produced by the team.
  • Strong change and people leadership skills, and an exemplary track record in providing client satisfaction
  • A strong team player with empathy, humility and dedication to joint success and shared development, who supports the development of our people and capability
  • Have demonstrable shifting of working outside of own comfort zone to deliver emerging or complex engagements
  • Shaping and delivering complex engagements that break new ground for PwC, building the capabilities needed to successfully deliver
  • Offers a global perspective in client and Network discussions and when shaping solutions/recommendations for clients
