An experienced Clinical Coder is required to join the clinical coding department at one of the UK's largest acute NHS Trusts. You will work with a team of peers to deliver the department's vision to provide efficient and expert coding of patient records, embracing national standards of excellence, enabling the Trust to optimise income, and enriching the data we use to understand and enhance patient care. You will be based at the state-of-the-art Southmead Hospital in Bristol. The Clinical Coder position is a fantastic opportunity for you to take a role with:

You will work in a very friendly and supportive team, who just want to make a difference. As an experienced Clinical Coder you will be responsible for extracting clinical information from the patients' medical record and translating this medical terminology into a series of codes using the international and national classifications ICD 10 and OPCS 4.9. Key duties of the post include:
  • To work independently on a range of specialities and provide support to Senior coders and Divisional Leads
  • Ensuring departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and targets are consistently achieved
  • To be proactive, flexible and supportive towards an electronic way of working as the Trust develops its electronic patient record
  • To be working towards sitting the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
The successful experienced Clinical Coder will have:
  • A minimum of eighteen months experience of working in clinical coding using ICD10 fifth edition and OPCS 4.9 covering multiple specialities
  • Ability to apply national standards and local policies across a wide range of specialities and across a range of coding scenarios
  • The capability to work efficiently as an individual and as part of a team
  • Experience of working to targets and KPI's
This role is only suitable for existing clinical coders who are already working at the above level and meet all of the criteria listed in the person specification.
