Film4 is Channel 4's feature film commissioning department responsible for developing and financing innovative and award winning films such as The Favourite, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Beast, Saint Maud, 12 Years a Slave, Slumdog Millionaire and Four Lions. We fund between 8-12 films a year and these range from budgets of under £500k to over £30m. We work with first time directors and producers as well as established talent and filmmakers at all levels in between.

The Production Finance team at Film4 has oversight of all aspects of physical production from first stages of budgeting through prep, shoot, post and final delivery of our films. We are also responsible for negotiating key financial terms and budgets for Film4's development slate.
Our Production Finance Executive is leaving us in March and we are now looking for an experienced production professional, on a full time, dedicated basis at Film4.

Although day to day you will be working principally within the Film4 team, the role falls under C4's Commercial Affairs department which is responsible for the financial, legal and business aspects of programme & film making and is tasked with negotiating all contractual, financial and other deal terms between Channel 4 and programme suppliers, in particular independent companies who make programmes & films on Channel 4's behalf. Each commissioning area has a dedicated Legal and Business Affairs Manager and Production Finance Executive who work with commissioning editors to agree the editorial, financial and contractual details of each project, and to manage the business issues of each genre.

Reporting to the Head of Production; the role involves supporting the Head of Production in providing a full Production Finance service for Film and working in a team of three, including a Production Manager.


Film Development
  • Negotiating key financial terms for new and existing development deals (writer deals, option deals, development budgets) in consultation with Film4's Creative and Business Affairs team members
Film Production
  • Working closely with independent producers, overseeing the commissioning of budgets for films being readied for production
  • Reviewing budgets and schedules to ensure films are being set up and made at an optimum level to deliver to financial and creative ambitions,
  • Working with Film4's business, strategic and creative team members to help shape the optimum financing structure for films (UK and international co-productions)
  • Advising on co-production opportunities
  • Advising on key below-the-line production roles
  • Monitoring productions from pre-prep through to final delivery (reviewing progress reports, rushes etc, to be familiar with production cost reports) to ensure films are delivered on schedule and within budget whilst still meeting creative ambitions
  • Liaising with productions and Channel 4 Covid Consultant to review Covid filming plans. Keeping up to date with current Covid Filming guidelines.
  • Attending screenings, set visits as appropriate
  • Liaising with co-financiers and Completion bonds
  • Communicating on all aspects of production to Creative, Business Affairs and the Film4 team
  • Keeping up to date with Guild agreements (UK, USA, internationally)
  • Keeping up to date with latest technological advances in the sector
  • Attending commissioning and business affairs routines and other meetings as required (internal and external)
  • Responsible for entering data into the cash and creditors forecasting system for production and development and ensuring it is kept up to date.
  • Routine review of spend to date reports and follow up on queries arising
  • Updating USD and EUR currency cashflows monthly
  • Preparing paperwork for approval through the LPFC and BAB approval process, ensuring accuracy of data entry and submission of paperwork within given timelines.
  • Maintaining up to date status reports, the Film4 data base and updating contacts database as required.
  • Acting as a point of contact for queries (internal and external)
  • Liaison with & reporting to other departments in Channel 4
  • Ensuring Film4 encourages and improves diversity on our films in line with Channel 4's diversity objectives
  • Ensuring Film4 encourages and improves SUSTAINABILITY on our films.

Technical & Professional Skills
  • First class knowledge and experience of feature film production and/or international TV drama co-productions, ideally up tomid to high budget level
  • Knowledge of film and/or Drama TV production process gained through experience of working on productions (as a Production Exec, Line producer, Production Supervisor, PM, Production Accountant)
  • Strong financial and negotiating skills
  • Strong working relationships with and knowledge of the UK feature film production community: crews, suppliers, production companies
  • Knowledge of international co-production
  • Understanding of film finance
  • Good working knowledge and experience of Guild Agreements (especially UK & USA)
  • Understanding of post-production workflow
  • Good computer and system skills including ability to create budgets & schedules on Movie Magic Budgeting & Scheduling; Intermediate-Advanced Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Word and an aptitude for learning new systems
  • Display an interest in understanding all aspects of the media industry and in particular, film
  • Management experience in similar media environment
