Financial Planning Manager

Posted: 17 Aug 2020
London, United Kingdom
Permanent & Full-time 98F0627E3C

This is an exciting opportunity to become the fourth person in Bulb's growing Finance Planning & Analysis team, at the strategic heart of the UK’s fastest growing company.

Energy is a complex industry, so our Financial Planning Manager will require extremely strong critical thinking and analytical skills. We need a qualified accountant who is also a great communicator and a strong excel analyst. You will be responsible for project managing the financial planning process, building robust and defensible financial forecasts, and communicating these forecasts to stakeholders including the senior leadership team and CEO.

This is a great opportunity for a smart, motivated person to turbocharge their career. We are a non-hierarchical environment - if you want to make something happen, the floor is yours. Plus you’ll have regular exposure to the senior leadership team and co-founders from Day 1.

Key responsibilities

  • Own Bulb’s financial forecasts: P&L, balance sheet and cashflow forecasts
  • Own Bulb’s financial planning process
  • Work with stakeholders around the business to agree forecasts and budgets and ensure different teams are aligned
  • Question the forecast and highlight risks and opportunities - we need someone strategic who asks the right questions to keep Bulb performing
  • Continually improve our forecasting methodologies and process, which will eventually involve migrating our financial forecasts from Excel into a financial planning system
  • Work with the rest of the finance team to conduct variance analysis between actual results, forecasts and budgets - if we don’t achieve our forecast you need to be able to explain why

Requirements

Must have skills

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent)
  • Strong Excel modelling - can build complex financial models that can be understood by stakeholders around the business
  • Extremely strong critical thinking and attention to detail - you will be responsible for setting our financial plan and we need the numbers to stand up!
  • Great project management skills - you need to be able to work with stakeholders at all levels of the business to get their forecasts on time and make sure they align with each other
  • Strong communication skills and confident working with stakeholders across the business including CEO and senior leadership
  • Team player: you see your work as part of the team’s overall plan, and within that you’re happy either driving your own project or supporting team members with theirs
  • Ownership mentality: don't just execute what's asked of you, but question whether we've asked you the right question or if it could be done a better way
  • Can-do attitude: Bulb is a fast-paced environment, you need to be resilient and calm under pressure
  • Interest in improving processes and implementing systems - as Bulb grows, our financial models will become too complex for Excel

  • Nice to have skills (but not essential)
  • Experience working in energy or utilities
  • Experience working in a start-up environment
  • Experience with financial planning systems
  • Experience selecting systems and / or implementing analytical systems
  • Experience with Netsuite
