About the role

We are a key part of our Government and Health Industry Sector (G&HI) team and we support some of the largest and most complex client transformation programmes in Defence and Home Affairs.

A career within Programme and Portfolio Management (PPM) Consulting will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside our clients to enhance their project and programme performance. You will do this by identifying alternative project approaches, aligning projects with corporate strategy and utilising digital methodologies, setting the tone and pace of programmes from the outset, responding quickly and effectively to crisis situations, and extracting value from agile programme delivery.


As a Senior Associate, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers with extensive consulting and industry experience, helping our clients solve their complex business issues from strategy to execution. You'll work with clients to understand and improve their programme delivery methodology and execution, including (but not limited to) undertaking the following responsibilities:

  • Proactively assist in the management of a portfolio of clients, while reporting to Directors and above
  • Be involved in the financial management of clients
  • Be actively involved in business development activities to help identify and research opportunities on new/existing clients
  • Develop project strategies to solve complex technical challenges for our clients
  • Manage and deliver large projects by developing the project team, assessing engagement risks throughout, driving conclusions, and reviewing / challenging the output produced by the team
  • Shape and deliver projects to meet and exceed the expectations of our clients and our own quality criteria
  • Continue to develop internal relationships and developing your PwC brand
  • As a Senior Associate within Consulting at PwC, you will build on the success of the Government and Healthcare Industries sector practice

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience in Defence, Home Affairs (policing, justice, security and Home Office) and/or central government industry sectors is required for this role. A current security clearance at SC (security check) is required for this role - a current DV (developed vetting) clearance is valued but not required.
  • Previous experience of consulting / professional services is preferred
  • A proven track record in one or more of the following key services:
    • Benefits Realisation & Management
    • Portfolio Optimisation
    • Project management, particularly project recovery
    • Programme Management Office leadership and/or design
  • A strong understanding of governance procedures and processes, and how these contribute to successful programme management
  • An understanding of how proactive risk management can enable transformation alongside an ability to effectively communicate these risks

As well as technical knowledge and experience, you must be able to demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, commercial acumen and ability to thrive in a team environment. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent. Further personal / industry qualifications such as PRINCE2 / MSP / MoP / P3M / APM are valued but not essential.
