About Costain and your project.

Start date: September 2020

Salary: Competitive salary, private medical cover, pension, 25 days paid annual leave/year, salary reviewed every 6 months.

The Costain Graduate Development Scheme is an intensive 2-year programme designed to equip high flying graduates with the skills and experience required to take them forward in their career with the company. We expect graduates to rotate after 12 months to another sector of the business. We offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership. Graduates will work on a number of projects around the UK during the 2-year programme, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.

Costain offers a range of exciting development opportunities to accelerate your career and enable you to achieve your potential both during and after the Graduate Development Scheme.
What will I be doing?

As a Graduate Systems Engineer, you will work in a holistic, multi-disciplinary role, focusing on the bigger picture and bridging gaps between disciplines - such as software or mechanical design - by using your knowledge of the system to provide appropriate information to each area of engineering. This will include undertaking the following tasks:
  • Throughout the different stages of the lifecycle, you will take the lead in systems integration and testing, qualification and acceptance. As well as the technical aspects of the projects, you will also consider important factors such as schedules, costs, training and concerns.
  • Graduates will also be provided with the opportunity to experience a broad range of complex equipment and systems at different stages of the engineering lifecycle. Placements will be structured and tailored to provide exposure to the different career paths within engineering.
  • You will also be actively seeking and incorporated and/or Chartered status with a professional engineering body
About you

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 2:2 achieved or expected in Mechatronics or Instrumentation degree (or Electrical degree with Mechatronics experience)
  • Previous Industrial Control Systems experience preferred

You'll be a welcomed member of the wider team, with opportunities to take on additional responsibility, join one of our networks for women, military or LGBT+ staff, and participate in cultural and social events with the local community (e.g. as a STEM ambassador).

Your personal and professional development is important to us. We welcome a discussion about how we can support you with further study, or professional membership or attainment for example.

It is expected that you will work to be a part of the wider project team, living by the programmes expected values.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
