As a Graduate Environment Assistant at HS2 you will cover the development of an Environmental Statement (ES), which is required to assess all the impacts of the HS2 scheme. The ES makes up the majority of the hybrid Bill documentation that is deposited to Parliament for approval of the scheme. Your role would also support the passage of a hybrid Bill through Parliament and, eventually, the management of the construction works associated with delivering HS2.

At HS2 we offer a two-year rotational graduate programme, providing you with the opportunity to stretch and challenge yourself across various programme related placements. This programme is designed around enabling you to get as much environmental experience as possible across different teams within HS2.

About the role:

  • Assisting in the communication of HS2 environmental initiatives like the Green Corridor.
  • Working closely with subject matter experts to provide supporting information for meetings with stakeholders.
  • Reviewing Bill Plans alongside our legal team to ensure we are compliant.
  • Reviewing reports and mapping produced by our contractors for our ES.
  • Planning and supporting assurance activities and audits on contractors site management plans and their implementation.
  • Reviewing contractor scope documents and method statements.
  • Producing a programme of sites to be visited and liaising with the contractor to arrange access.
  • Supporting the wider Environment team in carrying out the assurance and audit activities.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply.


Qualifications:

Skills:
  • Planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver day to day tasks.
  • Ability to coordinate and deliver multiple tasks and responsibilities in accordance with agreed deadlines.
  • Communication skills and the ability to develop relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to convert technical information into a format that is understandable to a variety of non-technical audiences in a persuasive and engaging way.
  • Ability to understand complex issues to carry out problem solving.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop creative ideas to promote continuous improvement.
  • Ability to take minutes and actions from meetings.

Knowledge:
  • At least a 2:1 Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a subject related to the environment.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues.
  • IT knowledge including Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent.

Type of experience:
  • Experience related to environmental fields.
  • Experience of writing reports in a timely manner.
