As a Head of Health, Safety and Environment at HS2 you will is responsible for providing strategic health, safety and environmental management advice to leadership and delivery teams. This includes embedding HS2's 'Safe at Heart' culture and approach to Quality, Security, Occupational Health and Environmental management across HS2 development and delivery teams, and supply chain partners.

About the role:
  • To be responsible for providing strategic health, safety and environmental management advice and support to leadership and delivery teams.
  • To be accountable for providing leadership and overseeing the functional line management of embedded QHSSE Managers within Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) and those that support other development and delivery areas.
  • To be responsible for providing support to leadership on the Safe Decision Making and Common Safety Method for Risk evaluation and Assessment (CSM-RA) compliance requirements.
  • To be accountable for role modelling and embedding 'Safe at Heart' culture and ways of working across development and delivery areas.
  • To be responsible for supporting health, safety and security in the design of the railway.
  • To be accountable for validating and approving subcontractor Health, Safety and Security (HSS) Performance (pre-contract award) and support sub-contractor on-boarding.
  • To be responsible for facilitating the provision of Safety and Assurance services to support development and delivery teams.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.


Qualifications:

About You:

  • Have knowledge of all aspects of health and safety, including occupational health, health and safety elements of the Works Information and Environment Management policies, procedures and processes.
  • Gained experience of leading Health and Safety in a high-risk environment (i.e. a regulated industry - which may include but is not limited to nuclear, construction, airlines, etc).
  • Experience of leading health, safety, wellbeing, security, environment and sustainability collaboratively with clients and supply chain.
  • Leading complex and challenging investigations.
  • A professional qualification in Health and Safety or able to demonstrate the equivalent experience of a Chartered Member.
  • The post-holder is expected to behave at all times in a manner consistent with the HS2 values of Safety, Leadership, Integrity and Respect
  • It is expected that you will actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
