More about us - Western Sussex is an acute trust with three hospitals; Worthing Hospital and St Richard's in Chichester provide emergency, inpatient and outpatient care; and Southlands in Shoreham-by-Sea provides outpatient care and day surgery. Since April 2017, the senior leadership team has also managed neighbouring trust Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals.

This is a very exciting time to be joining the team and a great opportunity to develop your career further. Plans to merge with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals from 1 April 2021 are well advanced and are subject to the approval of the full business case later in the year. You will be working collaboratively across both organisations and from April 2021 will provide the single point of leadership for the medical staffing functions.

You will act as a senior expert in all aspects of medical staffing including remuneration and reward, terms and conditions, policy development and in the employment of medical staff and as such will work closely with the Medical Directors and Directors of Medical Education to provide appropriate support on technical issues. You will use their skills, experience and experience to take a long-term strategic view of the Trust's requirements on these issues and how these can be achieved. They will work closely with the Assistant Directors of HR.

The Head of Medical Staffing is the key contact between the Deanery and the Trusts regarding the employment of junior medical staff that will require them to work closely with the Postgraduate Medical Education departments. This also includes being the Trust's lead as a Single Based Employer for all GP trainees within West Sussex.

You will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the employment and deployment of medical staff and have experience of leading successful teams. You may have gained this through an operational management background in the NHS, a professional HR route or by working in a trade union.
