Job Purpose: As a member of the Programmes Directorate Senior Leadership Team reporting to the Programmes Director, you will work with them to deliver the business strategy.

Enabling the build of products and services to support the delivery model; focussing everything we do to deliver greater benefit and impact to our customers.

Accountable for providing 1st line assurance and support to programmes and projects within the remit of the Programmes Directorate and producing management information for board level decisions.

Core Experience

Leading and delivering, at senior manager level large scale PMO and resourcing activity in a complex and multi-stakeholder environment. Experience in managing a wide portfolio.

Experience in providing assurance, supporting and managing the resources for a variety of different types of programmes i.e. consultancy, research, design and build and dismantling to time, quality standards and budget.

Commercial awareness – extensive knowledge and understanding product and services programme delivery.

Business delivery focus - strong delivery focus, able to interpret data to create and present evidence-based insight.

A proven track record at senior management level capable of balancing strategic, tactical and operational priorities; able to deliver at pace with resilience, often through high levels of ambiguity and organisational change.

Full-time and slightly less than full-time applications are invited. This role will nominally be based in Exeter but we will consider applicants wishing to work elsewhere within the UK within operational requirements.

Job Responsibilities: Be an active member of the Programmes Directorate Senior Leadership Team supporting the delivery of strategy for the whole Met Office.

Set the standards and business processes for managing the portfolio, including resourcing.

Responsible for the provision of full 1st line assurance and programmatic capability and support to the directorate.

Leverage resource in order to deliver agreed programmes and services along the lines of capability.

Responsible as Process Owner for delegated Level 1 processes per the Process Hub.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities: Relevant professional qualification or knowledge – Portfolio and programme management e.g. MoPortfolios or equivalent relevant knowledge

General management at Master level or equivalent experience

Financial literacy – proven track record of managing a significant budget (£x million+) within agreed limits and extensive knowledge of corporate budgeting and financial processes including delivery of cost reduction/ efficiency programmes.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities: Working within a Scientific environment.

Cross sector experience - working with or across different sectors and/ or organisations.
