Job Title Head of Transport Operations

Location UK Flexible (travel required)

As the Global Head of Transport Operations, you oversee the delivery of a Seamless, Progressive and Personal experience to our customers and internal supply chain network worldwide, with accountability for proactive management of our carrier service levels. Working with our strategic 3rd party provider to optimise the service delivered to customers whilst also identifying the most cost effective and efficient solutions. Managing costs through a robust regime of freight bill audit, service credits and identify and deliver freight cost reduction projects. Delivery of world class visibility of global transport activity.

What You Will Do
  • Global accountability for the management of key partners/transport providers to deliver to service levels and costs, including full cycle of review meetings, including ensuring robust quarterly and monthly business reviews taking place with global partners. Working with the RS regional operations teams to deliver.
  • Stakeholder management at senior levels within supply chain and across all markets to raise awareness of transport activities and constraints and manage market issues where they arise
  • Identify and lead transport cost reduction projects to deliver tangible and sustainable cost savings. CI identification and delivery with 3rd party providers and the in-house team
  • Work with our strategic 3rd party provider and the RS procurement team to design approach to tenders and provide relevant service descriptions. Work collaboratively with regional customers to ensure customer needs are met within the tender.
  • Freight bill audit accountability - ensuring this is completed in all markets to high standard and delivering savings. Embed robust processes to validate carrier performance and enact service credit delivery from our 3rd party providers. Ensure all contracts are set with clear service levels and a service credit regime in place
  • Lead the global transport team - ensuring team members understanding the supply chain strategy and transport strategy, and are performance managed effectively.
  • Working in conjunction with the ESG team to deliver improvements in environmental impact associated with transport activity
  • Bring expertise and an external market view to RS on key transport trends and innovations: markets, competitors and transport providers, constantly assessing the way RS approaches our transport service and spend, and making recommendations
  • Oversee the development and operation of world class reporting and visibility of the transport activity.
What Will You Bring To the Role
  • Knowledge and experience of optimising a global transport network including making trade-offs between the different supply chain cost elements of transport, inventory and labour
  • In depth understanding of the movement of goods domestically in multiple geographies and across international borders. Covering both freight and parcel providers.
  • Successful experience of managing multi-million £ service contracts
  • Knowledge and experience of best practise contracting and management of working with 3PL/4PL transport providers
  • Commercial acumen, a high level of numerical aptitude, with the ability to make complex decisions.
  • Experience and capability to operate at/ negotiate with the most senior levels of staff in our suppliers
  • Ability to lead and manage a global process involving a large international network of internal stakeholders
  • Can build collaborative relationships and work easily with a diversity of people.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to drive alignment on global transport strategy and/ or carrier changes
  • Proven track record of leading the development and implementation of large carrier change programmes
  • Ability to scan and interpret the external marketplace, understanding global trend and relevance for Electrocomponents
