An opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking individual to join the Health & Safety Team. Based in Occupational Health, the successful post holder you will be responsible for providing specialist advice, guidance and training regarding Health and Safety. You will also work collaboratively with a number of other occupational health professionals in providing a coordinated approach to the health element of the position. You will ensure that the Trust continues to meet and exceed its statutory obligations and support operational managers, both clinical and non-clinical, to enable them to undertake their responsibilities locally.

The Health and Safety Advisor has responsibility for promoting understanding and compliance with the Trust's Health and Safety Arrangements and is responsible for the following:
  • Ensuring that an organisational health and safety management framework is effective communicated and implemented throughout the Trust.
  • Attend the various committees that support health & safety directly or otherwise
  • Familiarise with the Alcumus system for COSHH management
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and technical guidance.
  • Developing policies and procedures in health and safety and ensuring the implementation thereof.
  • Keeping informed of changes in the relevant statutory provisions and assisting with assessing the implications of such changes.
  • Supporting the investigation of incidents and suitably trained experienced staff facilitate root cause analysis and participate in the investigation of serious untoward incidents as required.
  • Working with the education department to develop and facilitate effective Health and Safety Training.
  • Ensuring the review and maintenance of the accident/incident system and reporting to the enforcing agencies as necessary.
  • Providing professional health and safety advice and support across the trust, to all levels of staff.
  • Work in collaboration, providing support and advice to Clinical and non-clinical managers with regards to management of health and safety.
You must have the ability to work closely with all levels of management. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated but also has experience of working within a professional team. As a team player, you'll be able to prioritise your work in order to meet deadlines and have a customer focused approach. Previous experience of working within a team or the NHS is desirable but not essential.
