As the Senior Partner - Employee Experience, reporting to Head of People Services, this role is an integral part of the Met Office People Directorate and is a member of People Services Management Team.

The post-holder is responsible for the strategic direction and operational delivery of services encompassing all transactional elements of the employee lifecycle.


Job Purpose

As the Senior Partner - Employee Experience, reporting to Head of People Services, this role is an integral part of the Met Office People Directorate and is a member of People Services Management Team.

The post-holder is responsible for the strategic direction and operational delivery of services encompassing all transactional elements of the employee lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities

The role will be accountable for:

All operational delivery

  • Informing, developing and implementing the new service delivery model
  • 1st line enquiries through our AskHR service
  • 2nd line advice, support and guidance including case-management
  • Pay & Allowances

Managing the employee experience team (indicative team of 15)

  • Hiring, promoting and performance management of the team
  • Developing and delivering a proactive development strategy for the team, upskilling the team
  • Driving motivation in the team

Managing the associated budgets

  • Efficient use of budgets
  • Assessing the effectiveness of different delivery channels and recommending changes
  • Working alongside procurement on contract management

Using data sets provided by the centre of excellence to identify and introduce pro-active operational measures that add value to the business

  • Monitoring and analysing trends for example
  • Attendance and absence
  • Performance management and pay
  • Retention
  • Informing MO total reward strategy

Setting the employee experience strategy

  • Driving process improvements across all activities
  • Driving improved interaction / engagement with HRBPs and the Business;
  • Developing managers skills and confidence and engaging managers in people management/ service developments and change
  • Driving positive employee relations for example, working collaboratively with the Trade Union and staff representatives
  • Systems/ Service Owner e.g. People Hub
  • Managing outsourced services e.g. Occupational Health
  • People policy – ensure all people policy and practice is inclusive, fair and legally compliant and focused on future normal ways of working

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  1. Graduate and/ or relevant Professional Qualification or equivalent and evidenced experience at post graduate level. Full MCIPD member or equivalent.
  2. Experience in operational HR where you have demonstrated calmness under pressure which must include at least two of the following areas - employment law, employee relations, people policy, delivery of pay services (in/ outsourced), performance management, redeployment & redundancy, employee engagement.
  3. Proven employee relations skills, providing expert advice to managers in employee relations matters and reaching appropriate business solutions using a highly collaborative approach.
  4. Evidence of problem solving and providing a pro-active, customer focussed and pragmatic HR service that adds value to the business.
  5. Evidence of building and maintaining effective relationships with Managers, Colleagues and Trade Unions.
  6. Experience of managing outsourced contracts and/ or budgets.
  7. Evidence of steering teams through significant change especially creating new teams, implementing direction and delivering results

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  1. Working with a highly technical/ specialist/ scientific workforce
  2. Project Management experience

This role will nominally be based in Exeter, but we will consider applicants wishing to work elsewhere within the UK within operational requirements.

Once COVID 19 restrictions are lifted it is expected that the post holder will have to attend meetings (virtual and physical) at the various MO sites. The majority of the current teams are based in Exeter.
