Main purpose of the role

1 Work with the leadership team of the Government sector to take responsibility for the day to day management of a number of existing key clients to protect and grow these relationships.

2 Work alongside the Senior Business Development Manager for Government to support the business development strategy for the sector.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

§ As Key Account Manager for a number of our largest UK Government sector accounts;

o work with relationship partners and related legal teams to develop and execute specific relationship and account plans;

o lead on client strategy including client-focused growth, relationship management, client listening/feedback and new sales/targeting;

o undertake independent client service reviews with senior contacts from client companies, implementing client-focused action planning as appropriate; and

o Monitor and drive financial performance of sectors and clients and track revenue source.

§ Attend suitable Public Sector networking events to build and cement relationships with key account contacts, forge new relationships and understand key issues and developments in the sector.

§ Work with the Government sector Senior BD Manager, corporate communications and digital teams to create consistent content and messages to raise of the profile of Gowling WLG's Government sector capabilities in the marketplace.

§ Work with colleagues to develop and implement best practice in relation to Key Account Management.

§ Encourage use of Interaction, the firm's CRM system, for the purposes of client relationship management/development.

§ Work with partners and other stakeholders to devise and execute new products and services to service changing client needs.

§ Work with the strategic bids team on major Government sector-focused bids to bring sector knowledge to bear.

§ Act as a central knowledge resource for, and advocate of, the firm’s strategy and vision;

§ Identify and track cross-selling opportunities for other sectors and legal teams.

§ Undertake ongoing market and competitor analysis, leveraging internal and external resources as appropriate.


Key Skills and Experience:

§ Demonstrable team player and advocate of the firm's values.

§ Experience of successfully dealing with and influencing senior people, particularly partners;

§ Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;

§ Successful track record in key account management within a professional services environment;

§ Experience of business development within the legal and/or Government sector

§ Ability to think strategically and put plans into action;

§ Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to go the extra mile;

§ Ability to deal directly with clients and client representatives;

§ Commercial awareness and understanding of the clients' world;

§ Excellent organisational and project management skills;

§ Ability to prioritise and manage demanding deadlines.
