Job Title: Legal and Finance Assistant Manager
Reports to: Head of Production Finance
Department: Commercial Affairs
Location: London
Status: 4 month fixed term contract, starting end of June 2019

Commercial Affairs is responsible for the financial, legal and business aspects of production making and is tasked with negotiating all contractual,
financial and commercial deal terms between Channel 4 and suppliers, in particular independent companies who make Productions on Channel 4’s behalf or
provide content and/or services to the Channel

To support the Head of Production Finance and Head of Legal and Business Affairs (non-scripted) covering the financial and legal aspects of specified
genre areas and department wide projects.

• Supporting line managers in negotiating deals as required including taking specific responsibility for development deal negotiations and maintaining
financial reconciliation of development spend
• Supporting line managers in providing a full programme finance and legal and business affairs service to the relevant programme genres assisting with
all financial, legal and contractual matters in the relevant genre areas as well as department and channel wide projects together with acting as first point of
contact for queries
• Drafting contracts and amendments (ensuring these accurately reflect the deal terms) together with negotiating and concluding agreements
• Responsible for entering data into the cash and creditors forecasting system and ensuring it is kept up to date.
• Processing invoices including registering, coding and passing for authorisation where appropriate and entering financial and legal data into Channel 4
• Entering cash and creditors data into the forecasting system and keeping it up to date
• Maintaining spreadsheet schedules for commissioning department overheads
• Review of spend to date and other system reports and following up queries
• Checking documentation received from production companies
• Preparing paperwork for approval through LPFC and BAB process


Technical & Professional Skills (Knowledge, Understanding, Experience, Education)
• Knowledge and experience of the television production process
• Ability to draft and review standard contracts
• Demonstrable financial skills and negotiation skills
• Excellent computer and systems skills including Intermediate Excel, Outlook and Word and an aptitude for learning new systems

Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making
• Ability to act autonomously and make decisions
• Judgement as to whether queries need to be referred to line managers or can be resolved independently

Managing Resources (People, Budgets, Systems, Projects)
• Will control budgets for discrete areas
• Experience of working with external suppliers and internal departments
• Will be responsible for specific projects

Relationship Management (internal, External, 3rd parties)
• Internal relationships with managers and commercial affairs department as well as with other relevant internal departments – particularly commissioning
• Experience of building and maintaining external relationships with suppliers

• Ability to problem solve a mixture of routine and non-routine issues

Business Impact/Strategic Perspective
• Broad range of operational targets
• Regulatory frameworks do impact this role so an understanding of these is required
