We’re Bulb, an independent and technology-led renewable energy supplier. By providing 100% renewable electricity and 100% carbon offset gas, we’re making energy simpler, cheaper and greener for our members. With over 1.5 million members, we have recently been ranked #1 start-up in London and topped the ranks of the UK’s fastest growing companies. We're also the first and only UK energy supplier to achieve B Corp status.

We now operate in the UK, France, Spain and Texas and are looking for a pragmatic and collaborative Legal Operations Manager to join our expanding international legal and regulatory team. As we move from start-up to a global Group, we want the legal and regulatory team to scale in a sustainable and efficient way. The position will give invaluable experience and exposure to an array of legal and regulatory issues and projects and the opportunity to develop professionally within a fast-paced and dynamic organisation. We’re looking for someone who is excited by Bulb’s mission, passionate about technology and a team player with a sense of humour.

What you’ll do at Bulb

  • build and optimise scalable processes to prepare the legal and regulatory team for growth
  • explore and define which projects the legal and regulatory team should prioritise, and setting a timeline to reach goals quickly
  • proactively searching for new features to provide a seamless legal service to other parts of the business
  • determine root causes for bottlenecks in our internal legal processes and recommend and implement solutions
  • help track and manage legal spend across a variety of areas
  • implement legal tools: from shortlisting, through to implementation, to ensure scalability is achieved for Bulb’s legal and regulatory operations as we expand into new markets
  • develop detailed documentation for internal processes and identify areas where efficiency gains can be made
  • some discrete legal work such as reviewing, negotiating and approving NDAs and coordinating with internal stakeholders to identify key issues and concerns
  • develop and maintain training, policies, contract control processes, risk assessments, self-help materials and precedent documents for teams to use and establish legal processes so that the legal function and business can work more efficiently
  • provide day-to-day administrative support on a number of commercial contract, regulatory and compliance, and litigation matters

Requirements

With the support of the Global Legal Counsel and the Head of Risk and Regulation, you will be expected to own your projects, take on and learn about new challenges and become a business partner, not just a member of the legal and regulatory team. Here are some of the things we think will be valuable, but we're also open-minded. If you recognise yourself in any of these traits, we’d love for you to send us an application.

  • you have a law degree or equivalent and a few years experience working in a legal environment (in a reputable law firm or in a business)
  • you have experience with business and operational analysis, ideally gained within the Tech, Finance or Legal sectors
  • this role could also appeal to a lawyer who wants to move out of law into something more operational
  • you have a strong academic record, a 2.1 or 1st class degree
  • you have some experience negotiating basic commercial contracts
  • you have exceptional communication skills
  • you love tech and tools, and love exploring how they can contribute to efficiency and customer experience
  • you enjoy project management and making operations more efficient

Benefits

We offer some great benefits:

  • Be part of a growing technology startup and help shape the future of energy internationally
  • Collaborative, flexible and friendly environment
  • Competitive salary, share options and bonus
  • 25 days’ holiday (excluding bank holidays) with the option to buy more
  • 1 month sabbatical leave after your first year
  • Training budget, healthcare, life assurance and a pension plan with employer contributions
  • Cycle to work scheme
