Brief Description

There is now an exciting opportunity to lead this organisation as Managing Director, Network Rail High Speed, a privately financed, wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd. You will lead your team to deliver a broad range of services from infrastructure maintenance and operations through to station facilities management and retail in order to deliver safe and reliable infrastructure for train operators and their passengers.

You will be an ambitious, experienced business leader with a passion for customer service, excellent stakeholder management and a good knowledge of asset maintenance in a safety critical environment. You will have the ability to inspire and motivate change through all aspects of the organization.

This role is an outstanding opportunity within Network Rail and as Managing Director and a Director of the NRHS Board you will also be a key member of the Network Rail Southern regional executive team. About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities

1. Direct the development, management and implementation of safety, train performance, customer satisfaction, asset performance, reliability, productivity and efficiency initiatives across the high-speed route and demonstrate world class safety leadership.

2. Enhance and drive safety culture and safety improvements across NRHS and manage the effective identification and management of all risks associated with the business activities.

3. Direct the compliance with health and safety, quality and environment processes for all activities within the NRHS business.

4. Direct activities to manage the infrastructure assets to deliver agreed levels of performance and sustainability and direct the planning, control and implementation of the maintenance and renewal of the High Speed 1 assets to achieve agreed performance, sustainability, financial and customer objectives.

5. As a Director of the NRHS Ltd Board, support the Chairman and other Board Director's as appropriate, providing visibility of business performance and strategies for endorsement and commercial revenue.

6. Lead the development of the Control Period submission and Delivery Plan, in order to achieve a sustainable determination from the ORR for operation, maintenance and renewal of the High Speed 1 railway.

7. Develop and direct a clear engaging business strategy that will deliver the Network Rail High Speed business vision in line with the NRHS control period outputs and client satisfaction.

8. Achieve financial (cost and revenue), technical, safety and customer satisfaction targets and monitor business performance through internal, external and NRHS Board periodic reviews.

9. Inspire and deliver excellence in the quality of service provided to the client and customers and direct the commercial relationships with customers, suppliers and High Speed 1 Limited.

10. Develop, direct and lead the strategy for implementing NRHS transformation and efficiency plans for efficiencies to be identified and realised, and culture change embedded so that the business continues to operate effectively and is positioned for a sustainable and successful future operation.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Member of a relevant professional body with chartered status or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in operational management in a Safety Critical Industry
  • Considerable operational, maintenance and asset management delivery experience
  • Experience of health and safety management and compliance management processes
  • Experience of commercial negotiation and managing a multi hundred-million-pound profit centre
  • Proven track record of customer relationship management
  • Experience of directing complex delivery organisations
  • Extensive experience of managing business unit financials
  • Experience of commercial negotiation and managing a profitable organisation
  • Experience of working in a highly unionised environment
  • In-depth understanding of the railway industry and its needs and interfaces
