As a fashion marketplace, Depop's core user analytics capabilities are structured around buyers, sellers, and core marketplace dynamics. Within our Insights Team we also have a Strategy & Marketing Group, which includes analysts who lead our efforts to complement our internal data sources and analysis with external market research and data points, including qualitative and quantitative primary and secondary research.

We are currently looking for a dynamic and highly motivated Market and Audience Research Analyst to join this group and support our external research efforts. In this role you will work closely with stakeholders across Insights, Marketing, Growth and other teams across the business to design and conduct qualitative and quantitative research into our markets, audiences and users. Your objective would be to use a variety of primary and secondary research methods to stress test, validate and complement the findings from our internal analysis and help us extend our understanding of our business environment.


In this role your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing and conducting qualitative research about our markets, audiences and users, such as focus groups and user interviews, to support and inform our marketing strategies and activities. Some examples of research questions include but are not limited to:
    • Uncover the different triggers and buying occasions that give rise to buyers joining and using Depop.
    • Deepen our understanding of the end-to-end process of how buyers make purchase decisions and validate internal segmentation models with qualitative external data points.
    • Build a more nuanced feedback loop to understand our sellers' needs, pain points and opinions.
  • Coordinating our calendar of recurring and ad-hoc surveys in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. This includes advising on optimal data collection and sampling methodologies.
  • Identifying and sourcing appropriate secondary data points and research to supplement our internal data and primary research efforts.
  • Collating and interpreting externally collected data points, and identifying relevant internal data points to join them to build a holistic understanding of the topic at hand.
  • Interpreting findings and making recommendations based on the data collected
Must haves:
  • Ability to work independently end-to-end to design, conduct and synthesise research with minimal supervision.
  • Proven track record of conducting impactful market research and ability to turn research data into clear findings and compelling narratives that inform decisions.
  • Proven experience with a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods and ability to choose most appropriate methods for different contexts.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with other analysts to link qualitative research findings with quantitative analysis.
  • An excellent, confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and good at building relationships, both with colleagues across the business as well as with our users.
  • An analytical mind with good problem solving skills, strong commercial awareness and ability to link research to overall organisational strategy and objectives.
  • Experience delivering in a high performing, data-driven product team.
  • A hunger to learn, natural curiosity and a keen eye for detail.
  • A strong sense of ownership and highly organised nature.
  • Proficiency in SQL and ability to work with large datasets.
