Job Title - MPT Shift Leader
Salary - Up to £28,159 per annum plus Veolia benefits *listed below
Location - Newmarket Approach, off Pontefract Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS9 0RJ
Hours - Full time, 40 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday Night Shift - 21:30 - 06:00
What you’ll do
Ensure the MPT (including tipping hall and recyclable material output area) operates within the requirements of the Environmental Permit and other Environmental Legislation.
Propose changes as appropriate to optimise operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Monitoring of MPT efficiency (including waste inputs and outputs) and instruct operatives to optimise the facility accordingly.
Ensuring all activities within the MPT and Tipping Hall are in accordance with RAMS.
Co-ordination of the machinery and equipment LV isolations/de-isolations to allow cleaning and maintenance programmes.
Permitting of works, issuing of safety documents, evaluation of RAMS and toolbox talks.
Undertake all aspects of shift supervision within the MPT including scheduling team breaks, work point rotation, provision and use of PPE and safe working conditions.
Liaise with the maintenance team to organise required work when encountering a defect via SAP.
Monitoring MPT consumables and managing recyclable material storage.
Ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained at an exceptional level.
Liaise with the Shift Team Leaders during a shift to co-ordinate activities across the RERF site.
Assist Operations Manager with material sampling and testing including compositional analysis where relevant.
Ability to develop and communicate work procedures and training to their teams and provide feedback to the Operations Manager on staff behaviour and discipline.
The experience you will need
Formal engineering qualification desirable but demonstrable technical aptitude
Sound knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques gained in faced paced production environment
Proven team leaders with good communication and organizational skills, able to manage, coach and motivate the operations teams
Analytical ability and enthusiastic and competent problem solver with a practical approach to solving engineering problems
Knowledge of current H&S legislation and safe working systems
Knowledge of Environmental Permits and associated reporting regime
Previous experience working in a supervisory/team lead role at a materials recovery facility
Experience of supervising 7 people

We have a great opportunity for a Mechanical Pre-Treatment (MPT) Shift Leader to join the team at the Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility (RERF) in Leeds. The RERF is an innovative design focussed on removing recyclable waste from (through an automated mechanical pre-treatment process) primarily municipal residual waste and recover energy from the remaining element; enough to power in excess of 20,000 homes annually.
Energy Recovery makes an important contribution to reducing the UK’s long-term energy gap and helps to increase landfill diversion as part of an integrated waste management strategy.
