Skanska Hampshire Highways are currently looking for Operatives to work on our Highways Maintenance contract in Hampshire.

This is a permanent role, where you will be part of our Operations crew undertaking a variety of duties including excavation works, laying & levelling kerbs, slabs and bitumen macadam and drainage works. You will also undertake Winter Service duties that require you to hold HGV Cat C (Class 2) as you will be expected to drive and load a gritter and be part of our emergency response team.

The role is based from our depot in Andover. This is an ongoing project where we will provide top of the range training to ensure you fulfil your potential, however in order to succeed in this role you will already have either experience as a Highways Operative, or a Traffic Management background.

The required candidate will have an HGV Licence, and full winter maintenance training will be provided (including training and support to obtain the correct licence) to build upon your prior experience as a Highways Operative or in Traffic Management (knowledge of Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders and Signing, Lighting and Guarding will be an advantage).

We have other depots in the Hampshire area which may need cover at times, so you will need to fairly be flexible in terms of travel.

Salary graded depending on qualifications, in addition to standby and overtime payment.

You'll:
  • Be on a 1 in 2 standby rota throughout winter i.e. one week of standby followed by one week off (October to April)
  • Carry out all tasks in accordance with safe working practices and to a high standard
  • Undertake the gritting of the roads on allocated routes and all the associated activities of maintenance needed to deliver the Winter Service when called upon
  • Undertake out of hours winter maintenance and emergency works where required
  • Work on Highways furniture, equipment and similar fixtures (e.g. Erection, maintenance, fixing and/or dismantling)
  • Operate all plant and equipment necessary to carry out maintenance and drainage activities on Highways and Network
  • Take responsibility for vehicles/plant/materials/equipment in your charge
  • Where appropriate provide direction/supervision of the work to less experienced operatives
  • Operate a range of power and hand tools, following safe working practises at all times
We're looking for:
  • Experience working in a similar role / environment undertaking a high level of manual and outdoor work in all weathers
  • Highways or Traffic Management experience
  • A full UK driving licence with HGV Class 2 (category C) entitlement and full DCPC or be willing to complete training
  • The willingness to learn and develop within your role
