What will I be doing?

Working with clients' management teams, the Consultant will lead delivery, transformational change and control management. This position also carries responsibility for the development and implementation of organisational strategies, policies and practices to improve client Programme and Portfolio delivery performance.

Whilst every client commission is different, the role will typically involve some of the following responsibilities:
  • Programme delivery: application and review of appropriate programme / portfolio management and control processes, and ensuring that these are consistently applied to a high standard in delivering value to our customers
  • Organisation: establish the project support office and strategies to support the management of the project/programme such as quality management, change control, issues, risks
  • Vision & Business Case: work with the programme sponsor to develop an engaging Vision that can be used to drive the planning and delivery of the programme benefits
  • Business Change: leading the delivery of major business and change management solutions. Work with stakeholders to shape the blueprint for change including for example, definition of the future organisation structure, processes, technology and information
  • Benefits Management: Define benefits and dis-benefits of the proposed work; establish measurement mechanisms; implement any change needed in order to realise benefits; measure improvement and compare to the business case
  • Programme and Project Controls: Able to employ and lead on analytical techniques, trend analysis and apply complex systems concepts. Lead implementation of Project Control systems in Client organisations, addressing Process, Organisation, Technology and Information issues. Lead effective and constructive stage reviews to assess the 'health' and achievements of the project /programme and to confirm its continuing viability
  • Consultancy: Ability to lead multi-disciplinary programme teams; managing performance and delivery, ensuring consultancy work is delivered in line with the customers' expectations and the Costain Way. Apply influencing skills in a range of complex situations adapting style and leading others to see alternative perspectives they would not have seen on their own, to achieve outcomes
  • Assurance and technical quality: lead programme assurance reviews on projects of increasing size and complexity and in the delivery of major business and change management solutions
About you

Experience:

You should have a demonstrably deep understanding of the P3M discipline. This will have been developed through extensive experience in one or more of the following sectors:
  • Defence
  • Nuclear
  • Water
  • Highways
  • Rail
  • Aviation
Skills:
  • You must have excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Expertise in developing business change strategies
  • Fully conversant with continuous improvement and benchmarking methodologies
Education:
  • Degree in Project Management or Business Management (or equivilent experience)
  • APMP Professional / PMP Professional
  • Management Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner/Advanced
  • Management of Change Practitioner
  • P3O Practitioner
  • Management of Portfolios Practitioner
  • EVM Practitioner Qualification
  • Certified Management Consultant (CMC)
Desirable professional memberships:
  • Member of ACostE
  • Full Member of APM possibly working towards Fellow of APM
  • Member (MIC) of Institute of Consulting (IoC), possibly working towards Fellow (FIC) of IoC
Other:
  • You will have the ability and flexibility to work across the UK
  • Driving Licence
  • Active Security Clearance, or ability to hold Security Clearance is considered beneficial
